Primer pockets primers hard to get in.

i noticed same thing and have went to cleaning the primer pockets one good time. Brass is hornady also with large federal primers.
6.5 creedmoor.

Federal primers are a .001 or so larger than other primers. Watch if you use WW or CCI primers in Federal Brass. Shooting WW Primers in Federal Brass put some hair lips on the bolt face of one of my rifles.

I use one of these rocket looking RCBS deburring tools to remove any primer pocket lip or crimp from cases that had military primers.

I am reloading form fired Brass and having to clean every primer pocket to get the new primer to seat. Is this a normal condition.
I just started to reload rifle rounds have been loading shot shells for years.
So.......merely cleaning the carbon build up from the primer pocket allows the primer to seat properly ?

In reloading this brass, have you ever cleaned the primer pockets ?

This may be as issue with the primer pockets on this particular lot of brass. Where is the problem occurring; getting the primer started into the pocket or getting it below flush with the case? Is this fired factory ammo or did you load from new brass? If new brass, did you have issues initially priming the cases? What are you using to clean the primer pockets?

A primer pocket uniformer works to clean out primer residue. A flat blade screwdriver [shaved to fit if necessary] works too.

I've had the same problem with Hornady 308 brass once fired and for some reason I had to hit them just a tad with pocket reamer....Why? don't know maybe mine were crimped. It seemed odd to me as the headstamp read "308" not 7.62 or MiL headstamp.
FG on the head?

I've had Hornady brass with tight primer pockets, that is until my first firing. No more tight pockets. No more pocket at all.

I always clean out the primer pocket on all but brand new cases. I use a brush and also a Q tip to get all the carbon out of the pocket. Federal primers are larger as reported above. Try CCI 200 and make sure your brass is not small primer pocket!
