I've had Coyotes swap ends at 300-400 yds when crossing downwind of my deer stands. They do have a pretty sensitive snot locker.

Does anyone else use a double reed diaphragm for yotes? I've fooled quite a few imitating squeels with one and it cuts down on hand movement. Pretty decent range response out to about 1/2 mile on the calm day.I do all three, lip squeak, hand squeak and caller squeak..........I like the hand squeak when I am on the rifle, lip squeak if they are a few hundred yards away....

When I was younger I played around with diaphragm calls and did find that the double reed elk call was a good howler even the single reed ones did good howls and some fine sounds of rabbits , birds mice ect. . It was just easer for me to use open reed calls as they seemed to stand up to the abuse of my pockets and the hot and cold of my truck when I would forget and leave them in the truck . Keeping my hand calls on a lanyard it was better for me to keep track of them and I could keep them inside of my coat instead of my mouth to keep them warm in the winter and they were pretty handy to get to that way .

Any observations on fur friendly bullets? I am collecting ingredients for a 6.5 Creedmoor just for coyote hunting. I know hitting bone confuses the subject but sewn up head shots the fur graders are more lenient on. It's hard to hide missing hide with a needle and thread. When the rifle is chambered I'd like it to be for a specific bullet. Thanks
With the 6.5 the only experience I've had was with a 6.5x284 with a 1 in nine twist . It didn't like any thing but 120 gr Noslers . The most fur friendly bullets I've used were 22 cal and they were 55 gr. Sierra h.p.b.tt's . They are a hunting bullet not their target 52 and 53 gr .

Was that for a.22-250?
It was for a 223 . I used imr 4320 for a long time till I couldn't find it for awhile then went to h335 and some varget as well as tac loading them to run right at 2900 fps mv . In my 22-250 I like the 50 gr hpbt's with some imr 4350 at 39.5 gr for mine real close to max . fur friendly if I do my part and put them where they should be .

The most fur friendly bullet is a 25gr HP in a .17 Remington. In larger calibers, believe it or not, the least sewing on average will usually come from a Nosler partition spitzer started at or below 3K, and avoid heavy bone. The partitions kill quickly, and seldom splash. They always exit, but hole will be dime to quarter size depending on caliber and weight.
39 grain SBK in a .204 ( @ 3800-3900 fps) as long as it goes in the body is very fur friendly (stays inside) and kills better than a 25 grain .17 caliber.....kills like lightning.

The 17 kills them like Thor's hammer to about 250 with Bergers and over 300 with Kindler golds. I got rid of my 204 because of splash on bobcats. It was worse than a 22-250. 204 is fine on coyotes and better than the 22's for fur.
so far......35 coyotes with .204......since spring...longest ranges 300-401 yards...drop dead right now!
I had some trouble with the 17 Rem 25 gr factory loads and wind drift as well as they blew up in snow flurries and sometimes tumbled I had one hit sideways and explode on the rib cage . But that was in the 80's the factory loads were running at an average of 4200 fps mv .
