Why use a carbon wrapped barel?

There are a couple advantages IMO whether they justify the cost is up to you. Ultimately a thin steel barrel will produce a lighter build. However the cost even for a proof isn't that much when you consider some things. I had dads 6.5 saum built with a 3B spiral fluted and cerakoted. That's $350 for the blank, $175 to flute, and $75 to cerakote. That's a $600 barrel before chambering and threading. I got my proof for my 7 SS for $650.

As for the advantages. One is having a thicker profiled barrel to run a can on but it not weigh nearly as much. That is minor of course but the real advantages to me are cold bore shift doesn't exist at least on my rifle. Which i love. That and weight distribution is so much better. My rifle balances under my action where as dads is muzzle heavy with a can and bipod.

At this point though the prices have come down so much they're a viable option for a larger contour hunting rig.

I pulled my 22" #5 fluted Benchmark barrel tonight, and out of curiosity I put it on the scale.
Its .720 at the muzzle and shoots .2s with a suppressor. I paid $450 for the blank
So why is carbon fiber all the rage right now🤔

Why a new trigger when you can replace springs? Why X stock when you can buy Y stock? Why buy X scope when you can buy Y scope?
Just be happy we are given so any options and as of now, have the right to buy whatever we want...

For me personally

WEIGHT

1" DIAMETER MUZZLE PALMA BARREL IN 30 CAL

28"-30" LONG

I SAVE OVEE 1# ALMOST 2# IN STEEL

2# IN STEEL IS A BUNCH ON A 8 MILE HIKE UPHILL OR A 8 MILE HIKE OUT AT NGHT.

AND

I HAVE LOADS 250 FPS FASTER THAN BOOK

AT MY SELF IMPOSED 800YARD LIMIT THATS A TON OF WINDAGE LESS....

THATS 50-75 YARDS LONGER AIMING DEAD ON IN PBR AS WELL IN A 10MPH WIND.....

EVEN IN 30-06 A 30" BARREL 1" DIAMETER EXTENDS MY DRT KILLING DISTANCE AND MAKES A BALLISTIC ADVANTAGE COMPARED TO DADS 22" BARREL...

ADD A MUZZLE BRAKE-FIELDCRAFT AND PRACTICE

I KILL STUFF EASILY AT DISTANCES HUNTERS THAT ARE NEARBY PASSOVER AS NOT POSSIBLE...

SEVERAL TIMES WITH PRONGHORN-MULE DEER AND ELK AFTER THEY GAVE UP...... I TOOK THE SHOT..... DRT.....
NOTHING BUT KUDOS AND AMAZEMENT....

CF barrels heat and cool faster based on less steel to heat ratio. This has been debated a lot here but simply calling a composite company can help the understanding. Think of putting a torch to a 1/4" rod and a 1" rod.

ARMY MATERIAL COMMAND VERIFIED THIS IN THE EARLY 1990S....

CARBON FIBER WRAPPED BARRELS FASTER-FACT........

THE WRAP DIRECTION AND "LAY" DETERMINES "HOW MUCH FASTER" but a carbon wrapped barrel ALWAYS cools faster where the steel diameter is SMALLER yet wrapped area is same diameter as shank.....

BEEN A FACT **** NEAR 30 YEARS!!!

ONLY A "FLAT EARTHER" OR IGNARAMOUS WOULD DISAGREE!!!

So we are in agreement :)

I may try one on another upcoming project.
HCA does have a similar Light Hunter profile using Benchmark cut rifled core, I'll consider for my next project.

I will be talking with Mike about his recommendations.

I chose to go with the Bartlein on my current rifle because for me Bartlein's
Cut rifled barrels have performed well. Also I wanted the #4 profile, & to try the new material. Also I was able to order the specific length I wanted.
5r
Bartlett or Krueger
26"-30" finished
Never failed me yet!!!

this forum emphasizes hunting more so then BR - I doubt any one of us will be grabbing our f-class rifle to take hunting, so why use that as a comparison here?

In a F CLASS no reason to not use a 30" 1" diameter barrel!!! The stability from the weight HELPS!!!

ON A BENCHREST!!!!
