Weatherby Vanguard HighCountry 6.5 PRC

What length and what velocity are you getting?
24" 8tw. Rl26 and 156 bergers I'm at 2970fps. 5/8 moa with me behind the trigger, load could use some tuning, as es isnt the best. However my nephew is shooting the rifle for hunting season and it'll be just fine for deer/antelope out to 400y. I'll mess with it more over the winter.

The 6.5 PRC is a LONG action with a magnum bot face.
Have you confirmed this with weatherby sales? The specs show its a short action by comparing rifle lengths between the prc and the creedmoor.

Lots of folks against the idea of a SA 6.5 PRC due to "long jumps, stuffing the case, etc." The reality is it works fine in a SA.

I've got a PVA Rock Creek barrel with the standard 0.188" freebore and the factory Hornady 147 ELD-M is right at 2.945" COAL, which results in a decent jump. But you know what—it shoots fantastic—the best accuracy I have gotten out of a mass-produced factory load in any caliber.

With the precision rifle blog articles recently circulating that advocate loading farther off the lands for more robust jump accuracy nodes, there is a trend away from the traditional short jumps and chasing the vaunted "0.020 OL". I have loaded 156 EOL Bergers at 0.120" jump that shoot great with fantastic velocity.

The short of it (no pun intended) is that 6.5 PRC in a short action works quite well, and is not the big compromise many theorize it to be.

Somebody buy one so we can stop wondering what they are doing:)
I did a sku search, cannot find anyone with an in stock rifle. 775$ for a cerakote fluted prc is a fair price tho. Hope it doesn't have the issues my howa prc did.

I got the email announcement for this rifle on friday, might not be immediately available

Run a 156 berger in your 2.9" short action, you'll be 0.180-0.2" from lands. Touch in a saami chamber is around 3.075" F that noise...... Short actions with longest maximized bdl mags can work. But you can't even load ammo into an aics 300wsm magazine @ 2.95 internal. Christensen arms built my short action 6.5 prc and it has a 3.055" bdl mag box, that's smart.

I just edited my post to include my 156 EOL results. Fits within AICS mag and still get over 2950 FPS without excessive pressure.

You absolutely can do it on a short you just need a wyatts box, or an accurate mag, or one of the actions already big enough to handle it like a model 70.

I just want to see how they did it on a 1500, as previously it was not set up to hold the coal or factory ammo in a bdl and no factory rifle is going to be sold that doesn't fit factory ammo coal

if they set up all their vanguard short actions to hold longer coals that will be fantastic for reloaders of other short action chamberings like 308 and 6.5 CM

I'm glad it works for you. Setting myself up with zero room to chase lands, or having my load clear a magazine with 0.01-0.005 room isn't something I do, but to each their own.
