Antelope bullet

I'm looking for advise on a 243 antelope bullet. I've got a rem model 7 predator. It's supposed to have a 1:9 twist. From what I read antelope are not tough to kill, so much of what I read suggests ballistic tips and such. I'm not opposed to using them, but in my experiences (with other calibers) they cause an excess of meat damage. I was thinking 95g partition?Ive never shot partitions before in any caliber. Was thinking that bullet could work for WI whitetail as well. I reload. Your thoughts? View attachment 188910
I found that the 9 twist wouldn't shoot the low drag long range bullets over 95 grains. Tried the 105 Amax but stabilization wasn't 100%. I opted for the 95 HVLDs. They shoot tight groups. Killed a big whitetail in Upper Michigan and the perform well. I'm taking it out to Wyoming on an antelope hunt with those bullets. I'll take a 6.5 also and will use both rifles depending on range. Can't beat a bonded or partition type bullet but range dependant.

I'm unsure where I'll go yet. I'm planning on going with my brother in law for the first one. We're going to do a DIY. Wyoming somewhere. Depends where our points allows us to go I suppose.

I have 22 Speed Goats on the wall. They die easily. Any good hunting bullet put behind the shoulder will kill one. I don't eat lungs so "meat damage" is a non-event. If I hunted Antelope with my 244 Rem, I'd probably use Accubonds as they have never failed to work on any big game.

Good luck on your hunt !

Thank you all for the input! You can't put a value on knowledgeable information. I ordered some of the scirocco to try out. Ok, now for powders. I use Hodgdon extreme line mostly. What are your suggestions for the 90g scirocco? My manual starts at 25 cal.

Don't think you can go wrong with H4831sc for that set up. Not the fastest powder but certainly a very accurate one.

Invest in another manual or two. Super performance, H414, IMR4831, RL19 have worked well in a several 243s for me.

Then you are far ahead than most new antelope hunters. A few years ago, I took a military member out that supposedly grew up hunting. However, he was from GA and only hunted on a stand and the average range is 50 yards or so. The closest we can get is ~200 yards and he was not comfortable with it.

Where is your hunt? As @WAHOOYAHOO noted, it can be windy where they roam. Below is a video in one of my antelope hunts ...

Good luck!

There is not a High enough BC to contend with that. You better get that wind straight in your face!

I'm really excited about hunting a new critter. It's an excuse to get a new gun too. This rig will serve as a gun my kids can use in a few years too. I've always liked the model 7 predators, just not that camo skin. This was my first attempt at duracoat. I'm happy with it overall. The stock is a b&c that I repainted.

Antelope is one of my favorite game to hunt and they are excellent table fare when prepared accordingly. Where I hunt them, they feed on alfalfa and wheat fields.

If you look at Cook's corner (https://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/cooks-corner.62/) forum, I have some examples. Dang, I got hungry all of a sudden. 😇
