A friend of mine just bought a Fierce Carbon Fury in 6.5 CM. The round they verified to 1000 yards was 147 gr ELD Match factory ammunition. He's a little concerned about using this as a hunting round, have any of you guys taken any big game animals with this round? Thanks for any comments.

I've taken a pretty decent sized pig at 200 yards with the 147 launched at 2750. Pig was DRT and bullet exited. Can't ask for much more.

I've taken two bulls with 147 ELDM's, one just under 400 yards the other past 800.
The 400 yard shot was very explosive but it just made it to the lungs for a good kill, the entrance wound was the size of a huge grapefruit.
The longer shot was right behind the shoulder and it also didn't penetrate deeply.
One piece of the fragmented bullet clipped a lung, I had to hunt him down for a follow up shot.
They're super accurate but I don't recommend them for big game after my experiences

Will they kill an animal? Yes. Are there better 140-143 grain bullets for hunting, with better penetration and mushrooming? Yes. I just bought a 6.5 CM for hunting, and I'm concentrating my two hunting bullets on the Nosler Ballistic Tip for medium size animals, and likely the Nosler Accubond for elk (though I would likely use my 30.06 or .270 instead of the 6.5). I'm staying away from match bullets for hunting. I just think when the manufacturer gives a warning regarding it, it's for a good reason.

Only experience I have with the 147 is killing a pile of wolves and yotes. Excellent for that. Fur friendly and DRT. This is in a 6.5-284 at 3015 FPS.

I don't see a lot of difference in the vld and eld personally. Pretty much all those bullets are match bullets and rebadged as hunting. The eld is a rename A max basically and people used them to hunt for years with sucesss

I shot a 320 bull with the 147 two years ago, one shot kill. This was only because it just happened to be the rifle with me when I saw the bull. I would NOT make this my elk rifle/bullet/cartridge.

Additionally there has been about 7-8 mule deer bucks between myself and friends with the 147, it is a pretty good whitetail and mule deer bullet. It works well under 2600 fps.

While I have seen a 100% success rate with the 6.5 version, shot placement must be perfect. There may be better 6.5 bullets out there but I have abandoned the CM and went back to the various 7mm cartridges for big game. FWIW, I do use the ELD-M in my 280 (162gr) and my 7RM (180gr) for longer shots.

A buddy and I used them this last season (3 mule deer bucks and 2 antelope). We did recover all of the animals with mixed results, overall was unsatisfied with terminal performance. However, we shoot just behind the shoulder and have been told to go for the high shoulder shots and they work excellent. Old habits are hard to break on where to hold on an animal for me. Lol. They do shoot excellent out to 800 for me tho. I use them on steel and I switched to 110 grain Hammers for hunting.

This debate has been going on for a long time, you can use the 147 eldm if you want, but a lot of guys use the 147 eldx bullets for hunting myself included.

Took 4 shots to keep this bear down last fall...260ai,147's at about 200 yards..

Using 140 Gold Dots this year. ;)

In 2018 we killed a bear, antelope, two bull elk, and a whitetail all with the 147 out of our 6.5 SAUM's. All ranged from 20 yards to 600 yards. They were all one shot kills. I found several bullets stuck in the hide on the far shoulder.
