Decided to build a sub 10lb 1000yd rifle ..... again :) Ended up 9lb 12oz loaded
- Tikka action
- Wilson arms 25" Rem Varmint heavy flutes
- Custom brake
- Metal cerakoted dark titanium
I'll add a custom bolt handle later
- Oem stock I milled, filled with microsphere epoxy and insulation throughout (35oz)
- 3/4 aluminum rear pillar, 7/8" steel front pillar
- rough bed job with devcon steel, then skim job later with marinetex
- machined a stainless recoil lug and bedded
- Burnt red, titanium and black sponge camo with mat clear
- Oem trigger lightened and polished
- PTG 300wsm match reamer headspaced at the go gauge
- Recessed target crown with 45
Indicated thru the headstock and 4 jaw as close to zero as I could see on the mitu DIs.
- Vortex viper hst 6-24
- Talley one piece ring base 30mm
I'll take it out tomorrow and see how she shoots

Got bored tonight and decided to lengthen the throat on this rifle. Coal was at 3.077 with 210s. I wanted them at 3.200. Need to take it out and see what changes it made with a new ladder.

I'd love to see what this thing will do with that extra room to breathe! I'm working on the same project just haven't decided if I'm going with a fluted #4 or a proof sendero barrel.

These are one of my favorite builds over the years, built a truck load of them, just so much for the dollar. I shoot for the wood stock ones to use if I can, 300 WSM throated .200 and a 215 Berger have accounted for a lot of long range elk. The other one build a lot is the 270 WSM .180 throat and a 170 Berger, the just run so sweet in the Tikkas!!
Like the colors!!

I'm with ya. These tikkas are great in so many ways. I think I went too far on the throat, but it still allows for touching the lands with a 215, 3/4 of the way down the neck. Should have been a little more careful. I was watching YouTube while turning :)
I have another one I was going to build a 7wsm on, but you have me thinking about a 270wsm with the new bullets.
wife says thanks since she picked the colors :) I'm boring with either gap sponge or swamp.

I will be watching this also, I want to try rl-23 when I get mine up and running.
