Marines getting another sniper rifle platform

It's a steep tag but I doubt it's just a rifle they're paying for. Probably a full "system" rifle+ Optics, suppressor, armorers kit...ect.

With all the Urban warfare a 300WM in the AR platform makes tons of sense but they're not going to adopt it.

Only the Tier 1 units are getting actual precision custom rifles.

The $16K tag is for day and night optics, thermal, suppressor, different bolt and barrel conversions, tools, torque wrenches, extra magazines, sling, bipod, range finder, ballistic and wind mini PDA, cleaning kit, deployment box and drag bag.
I'm glad to see our tax dollars going for something that is worth while for our service members. I've been in their shoes with little to no support and substandard equipment.

It is a switch rifle comes with I believe three barrels in different calibers so it is a kit but 16 grand is still a lot
Totally depends on the kit. I already broke that down. People have a huge misconception about cost apparently. 16k for a true sniper kit is not bad at all. Weapon platform, barrels, bolts, scope, lrf, suppressor, thermal/nv, other attachments. That stuff adds up in a hurry.

It's a system so to speak. Even if you add all the components up it still seems like a lot of money. What people don't see is that the money contracted will also go to maintenance over a certain time frame or dollar amount and the training involved in fielding the rifle. We are currently testing our version of the intended system.

After hearing all that is available in the kit it sounds like a much better deal for the money

I believe that if you're on patrol, outnumbered, no air/ground support, and the "stuff" is gettin thick, you're really not thinking about costs. I'm a vet, but not a combat vet, and will support spending WHATEVER our troops need to get the job done and come home safe and in one piece. If we, as a nation can spend untold millions/billions on free cell phones, subsidized housing, free this, free that, we sure as .." *ELL" can afford to properly equip our men/women in harm's way. JMO.

For sure, One of our men is worth more than 16K. way way more

NZDF Minister recently announced a new, updated AR platform system for our Armed Forces. Individual system cost NZD$12,000 each, for each firearm.
As detailed above - firearm, optics, accessories, training equipment & manuals, training in US for Armourers and 'in field' repair systems, first user training systems, maintenance of backup services during expected life of contract.
Cheap in my opinion for those that are posted in harm's way by politicians.
Calibre not specified, but expect will be the existing ammunition inventory - NATO/US 5.56 x 45/223 Wylde chamber for civilian ammunition, if inventory requires a quick 'stock up' before next supply shipment.

Remember this is a battlefield rifle expected to operate under extreme conditions and repair at the location. Yes, it should come at a lower cost.
