Hello,
I am new to the forum although I have been following for quite some time. I have a couple of questions for you guys. Given the fact that Retumbo and h-1000 is virtually non existent, I am looking at working up loads using one of three different powders (IMR8133, Reloader 33, Norma 217). I spoke with Berger and they do not have any load data for 8133. They did provide data for Norma 217 and the charge weights given and the velocities were almost identical. I was wondering if any of you had any experience or data with the listed powders using 140 grain Bergers in this caliber.

BTW, the load I have been shooting with good results was 69.5 grains of Retumbo behind a 140 Berger elite hunter.

Tagging in since I've in the process of a 264 WM build.

Retumbo and 8133 are nearly identical burn rates. I'd expect you to have nearly the same load. It's becoming one of my favorite powders.

Thanks. In looking at their website, they say that the charge weights are materially different. Their listed load data bears that out. But the min/max for both is a good bit below Berger's data.

RL33 is without a doubt tbe fastest powder with largest fill % for the 264 and heavy bullets. The only downfall, it's quite dirty.

Thanks for the replies guys. Do you have any specific data with either RL-33 or US 869.

Thanks for the reply guys. Do you have any specific ideas with these powders. Just looking for a good starting point.

With a 140 and US869 I would start at 76 gr and work up with a Winchester mag primer. If it is shooting dirty it is not up to pressure.

I'm running the 142 LRAB with RL33. Started at 69gr and went to 74, started seeing pressure at 73.5 with Nosler brass.

I have 2 of them loads are different for both. Because of freebore differences. Ive run the 140 vld, 142 ablr, 130 hammer and 130 otm. In the standard chambered one. RL 33. I started a pressure ladder at 70 gr. For each. Like the 130 class best for this gun. But all shot very good. Don't waste a throat with load development pick one or two bullets you are confident in and run with it. The carbon ring with RL33 is tough though.

I have had great results with 51 grain of IMR 4350, using the 129 grain LRAB from Nosler. Also using Nosler brass. This is loaded at 3.220 OAL, and shooting sub MOA at 100 yards. I am looking at trying this same load with the 121 Heavy Hammers. Best of Luck.

That is a very light load. Hodgdon website call for a minimum of 54.4 gr of IMR 4350...

Watch reduced loads with slow powder. P.O. Ackley documented several explosions with light loads of slow powders.

Good Luck

Thanks for the information. Have you found any temperature instability for the Reloader 33? The load I was running with Retumbo was very consistent. Some time ago I ran some 130 grain Bergers with H4831 that did pretty well. I was able to pick up a pound of 8133 and RL 33 locally.

I have shot the 264 since I bought a 700 classic way back in 86. That rifle has been fed a consistent diet of Ballistic Tips and has accounted for a lot of game. My dad had told me stories about the 700 BDL he had in the 70's. I have a serious affinity for this caliber above any other I own. Any time I have called on it I have never been let down ad still shoots half inch groups when I do my part.
