Does anyone have any info or has tried a XTR 3? I can't find any YouTube videos, no real reviews and so on. I know the XTR2 earlier models were 50/50 on reliability and glass was terrible. I'm considering the 3-18 model. Just want a little feedback. Thanks

I have a 3.3-18x50 model. Glass is good, but my first one failed on top an 8# 300 norma improved. The replacement has a elevation turret that's not near the quality the original was. I have the newest mil tree reticle and it's not that usable for hold overs till you get to 8x. The eyebox is generous, parallax isn't sensitive either. Quality control has been a lil hit and miss. My scope now resides on a 257 saum as it generates a lot less recoil, no issues with it other than mushy elevation turret. The capped windage is nice too. Personally I think the glass is nicer than an nx8 or leupold mk5hd. It'd be nice for an moa reticle w/ floating dot and bit heavier stadia for use on lower power.

Well that's not what I wanted to hear. Very surprised that you said the glass is better than the Mark 5HD. Because I now own two of them and I much prefer it over my ATACR. I've kind of seen mixed opinions about the XTR3. I thought Burris really put a lot of time and effort into that scope. By the sounds of it from you, doesn't really seem like it.

8# 300 Norma...that's all you need to know. F=MA forever. That rifle is a grim reaper of scopes.

Well that's what's scary. It would be going on a full carbon 300 RUM that's even lighter at 6.30lbs.
Wish there was more info out there on the XTR 3. Thanks though.

My mk5 has survived hundreds of rounds through a 7lb 300 Norma mag, soon to be on an 8lb 338 NM

I was gonna say.
I have two Mark 5HD's on two 6lbs 300 Ultras and so far they've been great. I really wanna try the XTR 3 but not sure how it compares to other in its price range. I can take the safe route and pic one of many others that I've tried and know work....just very interested in the new Burris.

How the hell do you build a 6# 300 rum? Ti action and 24" #1 barrel? Sounds like a one shot and cool for 5 mins before another one.

26" Proof Barrel
Defiance Ultralight Action
Titanium brake
Fluted Bolt
McMillan Carbon Stock

Proof and Seekins both build 5.5-6.75lbs rifles as well. The sub 6lbs being short actions.

I have several ti, carbon rifles. The only one that weighs right at 6# is a short action Razor-ti , 24" proof sendero lite, in a bare mcmillan game hunter edge. I have a Mesa Crux ti, 26" sendero 30 nosler in a manners eh4 that weighs right at 7#. Manners eh1, kelbly, proof sendero 300 norma improved, weighs almost 8#. Have 2 Tikka in carbon stocks w/ carbon barrels, both over 7#.
The seekins saves all its weight in the aluminum action and 21" barrel. The proof rifles have ti action and Uber light carbon stocks. I'm not calling you a liar but a deviant ultralight is 28oz, bdl bm spring follower & trigger is another 5-6. The proof barrel is 48oz, ti brake is 2-3oz. That's 5.3 # w/o stock+ bedding. I think the lightest mcmillan stock made is 24oz.
My current build is on a razor ti long action(21oz) ag composites Visigoth (28oz) proof sendero 26" 7mm barrel (52oz) I'm praying for 6.5# finished weight. A true 6# magum rifle w/ 26# barrel isn't easy to do. If you've accomplished this on a steel action, my hats off to you!

I guess I should have been more specific. When I say 6lbs. I don't mean 6.00lbs exactly. I'm more or less saying more than 5 and less than 7. If I remember correctly, they are around 6.6 to 6.8lbs. I will put them on the scale this evening.

I should have been more specific to the actual oz.

The xtriii seems to have had a couple issues at first but they seem solid and to have good customer service. There are two or three long threads on snipershide about it.
