Best ammo for .22lr

I have get very good results with my Savage TR using Federal GM HV Match and Lapua CX. 200 yard groups, and my rifle shown with an MDT chassis/Vortex AMG. My son-in-laws Savage gets similar results.

I have not seriously tested any match ammo but for any of the ammo I would consider hunting with, I have found the CCI Velocitor in serious benched shooting at a range to have the best accuracy in a new Savage rifle. This is a 40gr hi velocity bullet that especially holds its trajectory past 75 yards far better and hits harder past 75 yards than all the lightweight screamers that use the 30 and 32 gr bullets.

I lived in Ky and we shot ABRA rim fire matches at 50 yards. Almost every shooter used. Ruger 10/22 of some configuration and shot Lapua Center X. Each year, we would buy several boxes (50) of different lots and find the best shooter and then buy enough to shoot the entire season. Some shot good, some great and some, not so good. Almost all shooting Unlimited Class also shot with tuners. 2 years in a roll, our State Champ was also National Champ. Those guys had it dialed in.

View attachment 166628 I just picked up a Savage Mark 2 and topped it with one of my Sightron scopes, a 4-20x50 S-Tac. The set up works great. My buddy has a Tikka T1X with a Leupold LRP and we're having a blast with these things. We're shooting out to 200 yards and so far, our rifles are shooting the tightest groups with subsonic ammo.

I'm curious about different ammo for this thing and what others are using. What are you guys using as far as rifle/scope set ups and what do you think is the best ammo for the cost?
I have shot all brands of 22 lr. ammo and the most consistent accuracy I have found is with CCI standard velocity 40 gr. lead ammo in my Ruger 10/22 and my Marlin XT bolt action.

I Practice with CCI Standard Velocity in both the T1x and the 10-22. For NRL type matches where distance is 100 or less CCI will work. If it's a PRS style shoot, I break into LAPUA Center X or SK LongRange. They hold MOA'ish at distance in my rifles. I'm cheep and hate shooting $10-13 ammo.

There appears to be a whole bunch of guys here who think the date is April 1

OR they are flipped out on drugs. All you have to do is look at recorded scores at shooting matches going way back to see how they are stretching the truth.

That being said, every barrel is different and you should try as many different varieties ammo as you can to see what is the best for your setup. Good shooting!
This guy right here ^^^ gave you some rock solid advice.
What I use is irrelevant, but I went shopping for a plinker 10-22 for the little boy who lives next door, that somehow turned onto me buying 3- 10-22 target rifles. 2 gifts, one for me.
They all like different ammo, and one shoots higher velocity CCI Mini Mag target extremely well, but wont shoot Mini mag hollow points worth a crap. This has been an expensive road to be on, but I doubt you will have to deal with feeding and extraction issues that I had to work around.

I have an original Remington 40-X I shoot quite a bit to 300 or more, topped with a Sightron SIII 6-24x50 sitting on a Nightforce 40 MOA base. Ammo is Federal 36 grain copper plated hollow points. Plastic 17 ounce Pepsi bottles filled with colored water are the usual targets.
