VX5HD 4-20x52 - Anybody have any experience with this scope?

I have the VX5HD mounted in Leupold rings on a .224 Valkerie. It is clear, the reticle is perfect for me, (not too busy). The illumination feature is something I have not messed with very much, but pretty straightforward to operate. The turret clicks are pretty concise and the tracking has been good. ( I have not run a box test on the tracking, but I have dialed for both elevation and windage from my zero and it has returned back to original point of aim. I also have a couple of the VX6HD's with the TMOA reticle and am very happy with those. Just my experience. I like the product.

Mark 5 ate the finest on the planet in my opinion vx5 and 6 are as equally awsome
Currently own and use four VX- 6's: my choice is now the Mark 5, 5X25X56. Waited, long time, for the MOA reticles to become available. I think the Mark 5(FFP) is a positive improvement when shooting targets past 500 yds. At 300 yd paper target, my 83 year old eyes can easily see shot placement from 6MM Creed: don't even take spotting scope to range any more WITH THAT rife. Just me and my thoughts.

I have always been a Leupold fan. Every time I look at something else, and I have some Vortex's, I am pulled back. I looked at the VX-5hd, VX-6hd, and the Mark 5. I find it interesting that the 5hd and 6hd use the same glass. I thought the 6hd was clearer and on par with the Mark 5. I bought the 6hd and love it. Very happy about this purchase. Will look at buying more and replacing other scopes on my other rifles.

Here is my .03 cents worth. I don't own one but just got done working with 2 of them on a client's guns. One a 300prc and a smokeless muzzleloader that belts 300 gn bullets at 2750 fps. Scopes have not broken. You guys all know the good already so I won't bore you. But the problem we ran into is that the moa turrets are not even close to moa. So when he had the custom turrets made they were useless. He was almost in full panic mode. So I had to go to the range for the day and make him custom tape turrets that we're all shot on paper verified. Leupold was called and I talked to them and all they said was send them back and they would be recalibrated.
Shep

I really like my mark 5. I keep playing with it on 5x in different lighting to see if I can live with the non illuminated 3.6-18. I wish they would have done a bigger objective on this model but I understand why they didnt. Probably saving weight and appealing to the black rifle crowd that want an optic. What kills me is i'll be mounting it on a sako 85 and the mounting options are almost nil. I've found 1 pic base but I'm afraid with the small objective and lack of really low 35mm rings it will be very high above the barrel and lose cheek weld.

TPS sells super low rings in 35 mm. That's what I went with on my Mark 5. I have it mounted on a Fierce Fury 7 rem mag. Cheek weld is perfect.

Supposedly all three - 5HD, 6HD and Mark 5 all use the same glass.

Wondering if anybody has one of these and what their thoughts were? I have a couple VX5HD 3-15x56 scopes and absolutely love them. Been debating between a VX6HD 3-18x50 or this 4-20x52. I need new rings anyway, so buying the 34mm isn't that big of a deal to me. I don't really need illumination, but having it never hurts. It will be going on a CA BA tactical in 6.5 prc. Want a leupold because I've decided weight is a factor.

Also, they offer the 4-20x52 with a regular ZL2 low profile turret and a ZL3 target turret. Am looking at the ZL3 target turret model - anybody have any experience with those?

I did look at them and they are nice! I went with a Mark 5 5x25 for my Tac A1 for mostly target and distance shooting. You can get slightly better for 30-40 percent more. But not a better warranty!!

I have also been looking at the Mark 5 - I keep trying to love FFP scopes for hunting, just had my third failed attempt:). I buy them, mount them, hunt with them, curse them, sell them - then repeat. Its a vicious cycle for me! Lol
My 2 cents is buy a second focal plane Boone and Crockett, learn where your load impacts according to the lines on the reticle and be happy . For deer sized animals you won't need to dial. I have 3 already and plan to send one with duplex in and have Boone and Crockett installed. Good hunting Tribb

Not a lot of input in this thread to muddy up:). Yes - I feel like low power is pretty much useless against a dark back ground. Illumination helps, but having to turn it on and off is a PITA. I am an idaho boy, its easy to go from wide open sage brush to sneaking through the pines etc. it also seems like a lot of FFP scopes come with these busy christmas tree reticles - I always dial, so a simple, clean reticle is all I need.
I am like you, no fancy recticles but I like to stalk and dont shoot long range
Simple works for me

If it takes 15 seconds to turn on it isnt for field use and isnt meant to replace a bubble level.

You are absolutely wrong. Read this:

The latest Leupold VX-6HD scopes have a feature we'd like to see incorporated in other optics: a tilt-correction warning system. When the rifle is canted more than 1 degree off level, the VX-6HD's new electronic reticle level flashes, telling the shooter to square up his rifle. This kind of innovation helps both hunters and target shooters. Even a small bit of cant variance from shot to shot will change the point of impact at long range.[/QUOTE]
Yea yea I know what that says; if leupold wanted it to replace a bubble level it would always be on.

I have the scopes with said feature and never turn it on after the initial mounting and zeroing with the bubble level.( now you have a redundant system)
I have bubble levels on all of the vx6hd
What I was saying- dont replace an analog device like a bubble level that requires no batteries or button pushes with a digital battery powered device that adds time and effort to a shot.

I have heard plenty of different people state this but never with any proof that the statement is true.
Does it say this on Leupolds web site ?
Did anyone actually hear this first hand from Leupold?

No it does not say that on their site which is why I emailed them. Their response was the glass on all of those models are the same as well as the coatings used on them.
