How about a 300 Win Mag “Modified”?

I love the 300WM and have been shooting it for years. Gotta admit two things I don't like are the belt and the short neck. Any such thing or any way to eliminate the belt and lengthen the neck? I don't want to move up to the R.U.M. Because the WM burns enough powder as it is and supplies all the power and distance I want.

I am a big fan of the .300 WM but what you're trying to do is not worth it. You'll be better of with adam32's advice or similar ...

Belts can be turned off if it appeals to you that way. The neck I think you have to live with.

Exactly. This place is full of contrarians. The same ones who howl at anything to do with an "improved" version of the beloved 300WM or 260REM or 264WIN are the same ones shooting stuff like the 7STW, 30 Nosler, 26 Nosler, 300 Norma, 338 Edge.

It's a hatred of Hornady as far as I can tell. You would think that Hornady was the equivalent of the grave robbing Dr. Frankenstein. I don't see Nosler, Norma, etc.. getting the same level of opposition.

Seems to me the 30N is in between the 300wm and the 300 rum. Closer to the 300wm. I think pretty much what the op was asking for. If you don't want any bigger you could always go with a 30-06 ai.
