Started out my morning today with yet another kidney stone attack (3rd in the last year). This one took about 3 hours for the stone to make it somewhere that made the pain go away. Last one (3 months ago) took me to the ER for a nice shot of demerol to mitigate the pain. Doctors at the ER say I have multiple stones, but they're not big enough to require going to a specialist to have them broken up by lasers. So, as a result I guess I have to just keep dealing with random bouts of excruciating pain that lasts for hours and then suddenly dissipates as quickly as it began. Anyone else here going through this stupid s**t and is there a remedy I haven't been made aware of?

Yes, I had my time in hell. Finally passed it with med assistance.

Prevention? Stones are calcium based and your diet over long time deposits. Tea is a culprit.

I have had many... too many. Sometimes pass 5 or more a year.
Passing the pea sized ones are a party. It took 17 hours for one of them to pass from the kidneys to my bladder... 17 hours of moaning and yelling. Gawd awful.

You had any more since then? Docs at the ER told me that as long the stones are small enough to not cause blockage there's really nothing they can do except pain management. Is that really it?

A coworker of mine had them like that very bad, he passed a 7mm stone while in the control room bathroom at the jail we work at!! He had had them since he was young, always was told it was diet related, had tried everything to no relief. Well it turns out that it was actually some kind of birth defect with the tubing in his kidney or something, and caused the calcium to build up very quickly. He would pass 4-6 stones a year, and had to go in yearly to have them broken up. Last I knew he was looking into having a specialist do surgery to correct the birth defect, but he left the Sheriffs Office and moved away, and doesn't have as good of insurance any more. I feel for the guy though, it sounds terrible. I'm truely sorry man, wish I could offer more help.

Kidney stones are horrible I've been going through the same thing for years. The worst ones lasted more than a week you'll to the pain and peeing blood

This cure may sound funny to some, and not be acceptable to others. But this is what my friend did that had this problem.

If he felt an event coming on He would drink 3 or 4 beers without relieving himself and with the relaxing nature of the beer, and the flushing of the kidneys all went well. You cant make this stuff up and if you try it at least you won't be in pain.;)

My wife has had problems with kidney stones for years. She tends to pass 1-2 a year. She has had stones that she could not pass and need to be broken up. She has seen multiple specialists over the years and no one can come up with a solution. They say diet is a big factor. The biggest factor for her is that she does not drink enough water. Dehydration is a big contributing factor for her. But everyone is a little different. Narcotic/opiate pain medications don't do anything for her, but Toradol works very well for her. Her doctor started her on Flomax about a year ago. The combination seems to be working very well for her. She was also told to add real lemon to her water or drink real lemonade. The acids are supposed to help break down the stones. So far this combination has worked well. She has not had a stone in about a year.

I've seen what my wife has gone through over the last 10 years and would not wish it on my worst enemy. I hope this helps you out!
Good luck!

I've done this and believe it helps.
