Hi, just wondering if anyone has looked into a 6.5 Creedmoor AI? I'm a fan of the 6.5's I built my son a 6.5 Creedmoor Bat Machine action Obermeyer barrel Jewel trigger McMillan stock shoots awesome with factory ammo it's definitely under .50 mos @ 200 yards . But would a 6.5 Creedmoor AI get to 3000 FPS or better does anyone have any info? If this is doable this might be an easy one to fire form. I think??
Any ideas
Thanks

I'll have to assume that you are hoping to get the 140g class bullets to 3,000fps. The short answer is, I don't think you would get there safely. 2,900fps, probably. Even with a 28" barrel there just isn't enough case capacity in the Creedmoor case available, IMO. A 6.5/06 or a 6.5/284, (both of which have greater powder capacity) usually need a 26" barrel to get there. My 24" 6.5/06 tops out at 2,940 safely with H4831sc and shoots like hammered dog poo above 2,900. With a 24" barrel slower powders just take more powder to achieve similar velocity.
Maybe one of the Sherman or Sherman short chamberings could achieve that. I'll also watch to see if Rich chimes in.

I've talked 2 Rich the Sherman and Sherman short look great the SS being able to push 150, 160 grainers @ 3000/+FPS and he has brass for several of his cartilages
Thanks for the info

The .260 AI can get a 140-class bullet to 3,000 comfortably with RL-23. I had worked up to 3,043 fps (avg., 5 shot string) without pressure. My rifle shoots that load well but it shoots really well ~ 2,960 fps.

The .260 AI has a substantial increase in case capacity v. the 6.5 Creedmoor. Increasing the Creedmoor's shoulder angle to 40 degrees will close the gap a little, but I don't think it will be enough to run 3K without sacking your brass in a couple of cycles.

I am at 3005 FPS out of a 28 inch barrel on my 6.5 creedmoor.
