Actual difference between 6.5 creedmoor and 6.5x55 with RELOADS??

I just can not see getting those velocities you guys are describing in a 22" barrel. Mine would not even come close as I already stated. I guess I will say even if it is possible I would defiantly not expect it. It could lead to disappointment. I know the creed will do it because I have done it in multiple rifles. As far as Tikka actions they only make one length. They do make different magazines and have two different bolt stops.
We got 2900 out of a 22in creed with rl-26 and a 140 eld

I will repeat I would NOT expect those velocities. If you got it great. I would say your brass was most likely very short lived. In my experience the Creedmoor is more efficient in shorter barrels than the Swede so I have seen the same velocities with less powder. I played with H4350, H4831, and RL26. I would definitely recommend RL26. My 24"Creedmoor was around 25-50 fps faster than the 22" Then you have the completely different topic of just because the case with push the bullet to "X" velocity does not mean there will be an accuracy node there. If the Tikka had a longer barrel for the 6.5x55 this discussion may be completely different but comparing the Tikka CM to the Swede my CM outperformed the Swede and was much easier to tune. If you want to talk about expectations with the 22" barreled Swede and a 24" barreled CM I would say 2700-2800 with the Swede(I could not get to 2800) and 2750-2850 with the CM all with 140s. I would also suggest looking at the 147. It hammers game,is super easy to tune ,and extremely accurate. Good luck either way you will have a fine rifle.

We didnt actually run a load there. It was just in testing. My 26in accuracy node with rl-26 was 2945. Again just my experiences with the cartridge. I've been shooting one since about 2011. I should also mention those numbers are with hornady brass. Since switching to adg and peterson in lost velocity.

This is the problem with the internet. You need to keep in mind a lot of readers are looking here for trustworthy information. Now you are suggesting loads that are on the upper end of a 6.5x284 with Retumbo in a 26" barrel. You can not outrun physics. I have definitely seen some cartridges being more efficient than others but not by that margin. This is also why the 6.5 CM crowd has become the laughing stock of the firearms community. It is a great cartridge. It is super efficient and very easy to tune but it is not a miracle cartridge. I am not going to say what some ones load is or isn't doing but I will caution new guys to jumping in that hot or even expecting they may repeat it. I run my loads hot in most cartridges as long as the accuracy is there but I like to keep my brass more than one or two firings. I also have become rather attached to my hand, fingers, and eyeballs.

My apologies my information doesnt agree with your ideals or mindsets. Not looking to start an arguement. Please note I didn't state my charges for that reason. I wont even tell you what I actually topped out at because you wont believe me anyway. I know what the limit is for my rifle. Never once did I say it was a miracle cartridge. Happy shooting sir and stay safe!

For sure not. I play with almost entirely 26" or longer barrels. It's rare that I'll use a shorter pipe but that's not to say it never happens but even then, 24" is about as short as I like to go for most things. Although, I'm really thinking about a shorter pipe for my PRS gun. 26" of barrel is a lot to push in and pull out of a barricade every shot and adds a bunch of weight.

Some of the velocities mentioned above have by ********-o-meter registering but I'm loathe to call them out. I know what coach and I do to get our velocities, not always something you want to give others the idea of being a good idea.

You can call me out if you like you wont hurt my feelings. I have nothing to hide. PM me if you want specific charge weights and data. All my velocities are shot over a pro chrony chronograph(i know it's an optical) then drop confirmed at 1000 yards.

I think you guys should do some more research on RL26 in the 6.5 Creedmoor. The above mentioned velocities by Creedmoor Shooter are not bullcrap. My brother has a Creedmoor and I'm getting 2860 in it with a load that has ZERO pressure signs, and that's in heavy Peterson brass. The Hornady has more capacity and I could see gaining another 50+ FPS without pressure. If you've never tried RL26 with a 6.5 Creedmoor and hit top pressure, then don't comment saying it's BS. Sorry your H4350 can't get you over 2850. Creedmoor shooter is not the only guy getting over 2900 with 140s in the 6.5 Creedmoor using RL26. Do your research before calling people out. Throw RL26 in your 6.5x55 or 6.5x284 and you'll gain another 50-100fps over H1000, Retumbo, or H4831.

I think you should read through the thread. I have used RL26. I have actually used it more than any other powder in the CM. I have also used every manufacturers brass except Alpha. I do not need to "do research" I have had three Creedmoors. The other bad part is some of you keep throwing out velocities without barrel lengths. If I understand correctly the OP is getting a Tikka so the Swede will be 22 and the CM will be 24. I can tell you from experience you will be looking at 15-30fps per inch. I also never said you or anyone else was not getting those velocities. What I said was I would not buy a rifle and expect it and if you actual read the thread you will see that I was referring to the Swede at first and then borderline crazy claims start flying. I have plenty of RL26 around. It is impressive powder but as mentioned before physics still applies. Since we are throwing out these extremely high velocities let's go ahead and discuss that fact that of the 50ish loads I have developed under five have had the accuracy node at peak velocity. So now we have come full circle and the realistic expectations are exactly what I listed earlier in the thread. If you get more great. Count your blessings and move on. I will not continue to be part of this ****ing contest. I could not care less what you do. I only brought it up so new shooters/reloaders don't just go out and load up as some of you suggested and injure themselves. Good luck to the OP.

Barrel length is your friend. I have a Model 96 Swede Mauser 6.5x55 that I picked up a number of years ago that some Bubba had been hacking on already so I did not feel bad about sporting out a superb military rifle of which I am a collector. I left the 29" barrel on the rifle and with According to the Accurate Powder Manual max load that is supposed to be under 46000 CUP for the small ring Mauser 45 grs AA4350 with 140 Sierra and Hornady sp bullets I average 2800 fps. I have a number of the Swede military models and they all are just crazy accurate. I knew of a fellow that had one of the Tikka 6.5x55 and it was a tack driver.

They're not even really on the same planet if you pick the right powder. There's 10+ grains of powder capacity advantage on the Swede. My coach and I shoot a R700 chambered in 6.5x55 in metallic silhouette competition. We're running 140's over 2900fps without pressure signs.

2700fps is starting to get really stout with 140gn class in a 6.5CM.

2900+/- for 140gn class bullets in a modern rifle loaded to modern pressures for 6.5x55mm. RL-26, N165 and similar super slow burning magnum rifle powders turn in the best velocities.

Go to an Ackley chamber and you're starting to see the performance of a belted magnum.

My 6.5 creed with a 26 inch barrel will push 140 hybrid bergers to 3077 avg with slight bolt lift. Half a grain down no pressure signs at 3045 avg. All with RL 26 and I have done similar numbers in my buddies. Not sure why 2700 is pushing it for your creed.
I should add I wouldn't buy/build a creed for velocity. I would buy a bigger cartridge if you want to be over 3000 easily.

Warning! This thread is more than 6 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
