Long time lurker on here, first time poster. I've got a serious dilemma I've got a long action, manners eh2 and a spare atacr sitting in the safe! This needs a barrel attached already ha! I've got a 28 nosler, 338 edge, 7 mag, 6.5 creed what I'm looking for is opinions and experience on what to chamber up I want it to be a 6.5 of some sort gonna be a 22 in barrel to keep in manageable to hunt with a can on it I'm really liking a 6.5 saum just not sure how it will do in a long action, but I'm open to anything I can run the 147 eld or 155 Bergers if they ever get released at atleast 3000 fps any and all experiences are appreciated thanks guys

I think the 6.5x280 Ackley looks awesome. 3200 FPS on a standard bolt face with a 142 grain bullet, I want one.

Taggin in. Considering converting a .30-06 given to me when I was a kid to something else in the future (though torn on it as I had given the .30-06 from my parents). I'm Less well equipped :( than the OP as I only have 300wm and 260 Rem in addition to the .30-06.

6.5x284.... great round, plenty of components available, can purchase a box of cartridges in a pinch. Carefully think about where, how and what you are going to use it for and choose with that in mind. I shoot long range targets and vermin with my 6xc's (two of them), My 6.5x284 is my long range predator killer on a long Savage action which came from the factory on a long action not much left other than the action....

I've got a 6.5 SAUM on a tikka action that started out as a 7mm rem.
I am very happy with the 6.5 SAUM, running 3050fps with a 25" barrel,147's, and a mild load of h1000.
Recoil is light, and forming cases from 7saum brass is as simple as running them through the hornady 6.5 gap fl die, neck turning and loading.
Not sure if neck turning is necessary but it's super easy so I do it.
Whatever you go with I would highly recommend you get at least a 7.5 twist barrel.

Seems like finding info on the Sherman rounds is difficult. I would love to check it out though.
Not difficult at all. Search this forum...You'll find tons of info. Or, you could just send a PM to Rich Sherman himself. He's a member here, and his username is "elkaholic".

I would give an update on my 6.5 Sherman if the wind would ever stop blowing. But so far with 60.5 Gr of H1000 and a 140 Gr Berger, I got a 1" group at 300 yards pretty consistently. Just need to finalize the load and get velocities and test out at 1000 yards. I am thinking that it is gonna be around 3100 fps. Only thing about the Sherman is you have to fireform and but it is not difficult at all.

And soon, 155 Gr bergers at over 3000 fps. Mmmm....mmm

Seems to me the 6.5 Sherman is a 270 Win fire formed to change the dimensions for case capacity. I am looking into the 280 Sherman right now.
