28 nosler with 195 vs 300 win mag with 215 hybrid

5mph wind at 90 degrees to billet flight:
195 at 3150 fps
215 at 3000 fps
Kill zone of 18 inch diameter
1000 yards
195 drifts 21 inches
215 drifts 25 inches
You make a poor judgement on wind call and are 50% off. That puts your 195 1.5 inches out of kill zone and your 215 out of kill zone by 3.5 inches.
Which do you choose and why?

I personally have never hunted any animal with a rifle when the temps were 90 degrees or more, not saying i would not or wont but just.........YUCK lol!! I have personally only seen one 28 nosler that hit just a touch over 3150 and it had a 30" tube!! most run like ive stated in the 3025-3055 range safe and prudently in a 26" barrel. The 7 rum will stand all over 3200 fps but that's a different topic!!

And in all honesty for the human error in me and all of us i would still want the 215 or 230 30 cal or bigger and the one main reason i shoot bigger 338's packing the ups truck across the sky!!! bigger weight bigger frontal area just bigger! they flat out do more damage, if the error is there and ill be the first to admit im human and i make mistakes i want that huge bullet!! And also if your off by 50% or more thinking its a 2.5 mph wind call instead of a 5 plus mph wind call then your wind finger is way off and needs calibrated!! LOL

I run the 180 Hybrid out of a Cooper M52 with a 26" barrel at 3190 fps average muzzle velocity. That's with 80.5 grains of Retumbo. At 81 grains the bolt was very sticky. So its right at max. Not sure that I could push the 195 at the same velocity. Either way the 28 is more than capable of some incredible things and its an awesome round. What are guys seeing out of the 300 Win with the 215? Just curious as I do not shoot one.

My shooting buddy's 28 nosler was chambered by PAC nor and throated for the 195s, 26bbl. He had a great load with the 195s at 3100 with rl33 but once summer temps came around pressure was to much and he had to drop down to 3000fps. Both loads shot great.
Depending on your reamer and powder 300 wins w/215 Berger out of a 28" bbl seem to be capable of 2950-3050fps

He's talking about a 90º wind value...In other words the wind is blowing directly left & right.

That explains a lot! cuzz 90 deg is way to hot for this polar bear in hunting season!!! and yes i know what 90deg is in relation to direction of POA IS!! REALLY MAN!!??
oh and in that case he must be talking about wind @5mph 90deg from left to right AKA 9 o'clock which will give the numbers he's talking about because if he was talking from his 3 o'clock it would be different!!!

like you said depending upon reamer choice and so on the 300 win will 2950-3000 in a 28 pretty easily

So if we are trying to compare the 2 rounds. How fast will a standard rifle with 26" barrel in 300 Win Mag run a 215? 2900 fps?
Sounds like a pretty wicked round for the .300 guys
3050 fps with the 195 in the 28 seems pretty wicked for the 7mm guys.
Sounds to me like either will kill stuff pretty dead and have some incredible down range performance.
I guess it just comes down to if you're a .284" or a .308" guy.
Personally id like to have both (along with several others) to make sure i have to whole spectrum covered.
Thanks for the great info guys!
