Hornady ELD-X Official Thread

Also have some of the 6.5 ELDs. I will chime back in when I have some down range results with them

I have some of the 6.5 143. I loaded and shot 9 of them in my 6.5-284. I was hoping to get lucky and them shoot well without adjusting the seating die from my other load. But that didn't work out. My accuracy load now uses a 140 Nosler BT with .043" jump. The best of the ELD X loads I shot was around 1" at 100 so I'm just going to have to measure to the lands and set my seating die to them and try a few jumps to get them shooting better.

I do have a couple rifles that I can switch bullets with out moving the die and still get good groups. But these aren't going to. No big deal.

Have searched numerous websites for 30 caliber 212gr. ELD-X's ...I finally found them "in stock" at Sportsman's Warehouse...for those who are interested ...other weights are available too.

Received my 212's and plan to work up some loads with RL22. So far Hornady has only published data for the 212 using H4350 (would definitely not be my first choice for a bullet of this weight) and RL22.

Has anyone worked up a load for the 212 using either H4831 or Retumbo?

Thanks,

Finally got to work up some loads on the 200 gr ELD-X in my 300 win mag.
It's a Rem 700p with a Hunters brake on it and has been gone through pretty heavily. Has a Nightforce 5.5-22x56.

Groups tightened up right around 2900 fps. Shot 4 different loads varied from 2840 to 3000 fps with 1.25 down to 0.42 up to 1.5" groups at 100 yards.

We will shoot them out to 1200 this month and see how they are doing. I'll post some groups and results from 400 out.

This was the bread winner and looks pretty solid.

200 gr ELD-x
76.5 gr H1000
WLRM primer
3.555" OAL (.030 off lands)
2903 fps (average)

Waiting for my new barrel to load up some 212's with Retumbo, just need the barrel to measure it out!

Anyone have bullet length for the 6.5 143? I've searched every which way I can, but have only found bearing surface lengths. Thanks for the help.

After shooting over 300 of these in 3 different rigs I have found that these things foul barrels. BAD. They must have a pure copper jacket or a very low alloy.
Cleaning takes a lot longer over other bullets I have tried. EXCEPT barnes bullets.
This jacket copper it probably part of the performance gain over other LR bullets.

I wonder if it isn't part of the AMP jacket process?
They don't use a standard Cup-n-core construction, about half of it is a deposition process, similar to a gold dot/deep curl process Speer has long used.

Got two Tikka T3 300 WSM's with factory barrels, going to long throat one of them and go long action to see how this works out , afterwards throw on a 26" 5R 9 tw Bartlein barrel in #3B contour and a Manners Elite Hunter stock , sure hope these ELD-X bullets shoot, looks like they work great on game near and far , will be slapping moose and black bear with 'em .....

Guys, I confirmed today, ELD-X jackets use the same gilding metal that Hornady has been using since 1949. So if you have good performance, in regards to fouling, with any other Hornady bullet, you should expect the same with the ELD-X.
