LOL sorry for the title its the hook. The wife and I have been seeing a lot of TV shows about Alaska lately. The one common them among all of them, is that you will DIE if you come here! However the people they focus on seam, at least to us to be very stupid! It may just be the way the show portrays them, but if DEATH is constantly sneaking up behind them, from the thousands of perceived threats, would it not at least make since to some of you, that they exercise some more common sense?

They just make it seam so difficult, I'm not saying its easy at all but I believe the wife is becoming fear full of Alaska. This concerns me as her little brother is currently living there and she seams hell bent on giving him bear advice gleaned from TV over the phone.

Well I think after as many years as I have spent beating the brush all over the US. Alaska has definitely given me the most close calls. The biggest contributer is definitely the fact that most of the time you are a world away from any help. If you make a mistake most of the time there is no one near. Also you are not the top of the food chain here. LOL

I've lived 32 years and have not die yet!!! How's Alaska getting this rap??? I hunt ever year and have a blast doing it. I will say this you better be prepared for anything and pay attention. It's the most beautiful state I've lived in and plan on living here a longtime. Just watch your peas and cues!!! Enjoy the state while your here and you'll have good memories. Sorry ranting!!!!

Maybe they're not. Maybe they are expiring at an alarming rate. That would explain why there are only like 847 people in a State that covers about 40% of the surface of the Earth!

Now, don't get on me like I'm knocking it, I aspire to live there someday!

Well Alaska is t for everybody that's for sure!!! Has of now it's 33 degrees and snowing in the end of April!!!( which really sucks). But that's Alaska for ya, tomorrow could be 60 degrees and the snow will be melting. ( Great hopeful wishing)!!! Anyway I think if ya come and visit its a easy state to fall in love with, you'll just have to get use to the darkest in the winter for about 6 months and the summers and fall are about has good has it gets anywhere( 24 hours of daylight in the summers and the fall colors are the best in the US, my opinion!!!) it's a state that grows on ya, either you love it or hate it!!! Only way to know, is to try it for 2 years and go from there!!! Me, you can keep the lower 48 . ( Sorry not trying to be harsh about the lower48, but Alaska is the place for me and my family!!!). Ranting again, if ya move here prepare yourself and family for anything!!! Also don't carry anything smaller than a 30 caliber up here or ya might found yourself in some trouble!!!!

Like you said, "it's the hook." 99.9% of those in the lower 48 watching those shows have 0 (zero) for a clue. The drama sells the show. Advertisers buy time and they make some money.

My wife is convinced that gold is easy to find but the bears will eat you when you touch it. If the bears don't get you then you'll freeze to death or drown in an icy river only to get your bones picked clean by wolves somewhere down river. And the trip to the outhouse in the middle of the night conjures up all sort of illusions of terror!

With that said, I would like to go fishing up there someday in spite of all the 'dangers.'

That may not be a bad thing who wants people that think like that out hunting any way. I had no problems for the 2 weeks i was out in the tundra last year. But i will say this if something does go bad it goicould be really bad. But hay the bears and wolves have to eat to better to eat DA's that dont think.
