You quickest yote?

I went out yesterday for some yote fun. After 2 dry sets, I finally had a taker. I set my caller out 50 yards out from a good sitting tree, and a good 75-100yards from the nearest cover for a yote. I sat down, waited a few minutes and turned on Lightening Jack at half volume. I had just enough time to look to my left and back, and there was a nice little female already on top of my caller (7 paces away to be exact) I barked at her, she stopped, Rock River went bang, she dropped in her tracks. To my surprise, the foxbang on my caller didn't work. I looked down at the remote to see why it didn't work and noticed that the elapsed time was only 37 seconds! (don't blame FoxPro, I'm the ******* that didn't turn the foxbang feature on) It's the fastest taker I've ever had by a margine of at least 2 minutes. I can't even figure out how she covered that much ground that fast, but she did it (it was super windy, so I'm guessing she had to be bedded down in the brush very close and just didn't hear me sneak in).

I've dropped a few coyotes over the years, but I'm by no means an expert caller. So this all got me to thinking, since this was by a country mile my shortest set ever, and the fastest I've heard of. What's the fastest you guys have had em come in?

Below is the link to my shortest stand. I firmly believe that if I had used an E caller that I would have bumped him out of his hiding spot as I would have had to walk out and set up the caller. I just sat down in some brush and used my reed call. It was around a 15-20 second stand. He couldn't have been 50 yards from me bedded down.

My quickest is also my DUMBEST!

I had just acquired a home made e-caller and had to see what it sounded like.

I pulled up from the mail box opened the package from the sender, fired it up ...........

NO GUN ........ here's my stupidity kicking in!

AND WA LA!

Mr. Coyote standin' just across the county road in our pasture!

I ducked down behind the hood of the pickup so as to not educate him more than necessary ..........

He paced back and forth contemplating on crossing the road .......

The time to call him ...........

............ probably 45 seconds ............

Time to get over such a dumb stunt?

I'm glad I'm not the only one prone to self-induced failure! A couple years ago I drove 2 hours to hunt wolves, only to find that the green box of what I thought was 6mm, was 270win... Guess I could have thrown it at em... All my ammo boxes are labeled with BIG letters now!

Speaking of dumb, I just noticed that the title is "You quickest Yote" and not "Your"... There's your sign.

Took my boy out for his first coyote hunt, set the caller and critter out about 35 yards, walked back and sat down and he said here they come. I'm locating my remote without looking up I said where. Started to look up just in time to see the critter get mugged. Quick bark stop and one down. Second one made it to the brush.

Second stand took about 18 minutes, two minutes from my 20 minute max, and my boy thought that it took forever. I told him "I've never seen one like that before and probably will never see it again".

My shortest stand was also pretty embarrassing. Set out on a ranch to take care of a problem coyote that was "real bold and aggressive," according to the landowner (apparently it tore up her favorite poodle). Bold and aggressive was right!

I set up with my brother out in some short sage. Had the FoxPro out at about 20 yards. Just barely turned it on at low volume and in less than a minute a big male (I think) busted out of the brush not 10 yards in front of me at ramming speed!
I had my scope turned up to full power and didn't get him in it until after my brother whiffed the first shot. I let a couple rounds go after him as he sped away but did not connect. Dang thing wised up and wouldn't come in to calls anymore so I never did get on that dog again.

Moral of this story- keep your scope turned down or a shotgun handy!

The quickest I've ever had one respond was about two seconds but it was going away from the call! We were calling a big bowl. It was windy and I put the caller out. I thought we could see pretty much anything there so I opened with a howl and the coyotes jumped up 60 yards from the caller and headed out of Dodge! I was able to get it muted and switched to distress. The male turned around and come right back to the caller and my son shot him. Learned a valuable lesson there as well. lightbulb

I was never a fan of packing a scattergun with my calling rifle, until I had one come in slightly behind me and noticed it too late, he'd have gone home with me if I'd had a shot gun handy. Bought a used 870 at the pawn shop on the way home from that trip.

Keep em coming guys, we should throw in "your biggest F#*k-up" on a coyote stand too. I like knowing I'm not the only dumb-*** out there!
