What is a Really Good Hunting Knife

Christmas is coming fast, and want to get some of the amazing men in my life a really good hunting knife.
Open to any recommendations, not looking for folding knives.

Knives are really a personal thing. As a general purpose knife I like my Buck. Not an expensive knife,but holds an edge well. I like the 102 Woodsman. Have a 119 ,but find it gets in the way because of the large size. Outdoor Edge makes some great feeling knives,but I personally think Buck holds an edge better.

Randall is one of the best but quite speedy and you won't get them for this Christmas.

I've been meaning to do a follow up to a thread I posted a few years back, where I asked a similar question for a backcountry knife.

Long story short, I've had good luck with my benchmade altitude. S90v.

Knives are definitely personal. I focused on the material it was made out of, edge retention, and a knife that I could use for backpack hunting (packing out using the gutless method).

Bradford USA. This particular one is in CPM M4. Hard to sharpen but holds an edge longer than just about every steel except M390 and maybe one or two others. It's about the best all around steel IMO.

Depends on how much you want to spend.
We have over 100 knives in our collection and I use two Gerbers the most. One for dressing and one for skinning.

Benchmade altitude. Lightweight and the s90v lasted me 2 bears and 2 deer before I wanted a touch up. Still could have kept on trucking but I could tell it was loosing its edge.

I have a strider folder, gunner grip tit. in my pack, and I always have a folder in my pocket. I also have a 1.5 oz Tyto scalpel .I do gutless most and cape out if big enough.

Look at the Buck 113 Ranger Skinner. Got one from my son for my birthday. It's a beautiful knife and comes with a very nice leather sheath, very elegant compact and practical. Great edge and easy to sharpen also.

I like my Benchmade Altitude too. I also have a Steep Country that I like too. I want to get a fixed replaceable blade knife soon too, I've been looking at the Tyto and Goat knives.
