Lets say are max range is 700 yards, what type of bullets and cartridges are you using for varmint hunting?

i would use a 338 edge with a 300gr SMK!!:D

or to be a little more cost affective a 308win with 180 or 190 bullet

i would like to try a 204 ruger sometime i think 700 yards would be a little stretch though

I like my 243. Little recoil and very accurate. I shoot 87 vmax's. I also like the 444 marlin for rabbits. Might be a bit small.

I don't like using my longer range varmit rifles for those shot under 300/400yds. Depending on conditions(wind) above 400 yds I might use a 6RemAI and it gets into 600yds or more I'll use a 6.5x284.

243 is a great long range varmint round - fast with low recoil I use a 243AI with 105 Amax's, but the 87's are good as well.

A fast twist 22-250 like what Savage offers would also be an excellent long range varmint round. Shooting 55's and 75's you'd have it all covered.

300 Winmag shooting the 125 gr. BT. Way too much fun on pds. To save on the barrel I only use it past 400 yds.

For closer shooting I use the 204 with 40 gr. Bergers, 243 and 70 gr. Speer HPs and the good old 22-250 with Sierra 1330 or 1360 sp. For walking around the 223 and 40 gr. Sierra HPs.

My favorite varmint round is the 220 Swift. I do not have any shots as long as 700 (longest about 565 yds) but I think it could easily get there even with the 55gr bullets I am running through it. I do plan on on rebarreling with a quicker twist when the time comes to help it reach out a little further.

As soon as I receive the rifle, I will be using a rifle called a 300 Varminter which is based off a tight neck .337 Match 300 WSM Chamber. The bullet I will be using will be the 125grn BT and 110grn -Max at a velocity of 4000+fps. The rifle is being built for varminting out to 800 yards.

Although I have owned heavy varmint rigs in a variety of chamberings, these are the cartridges that I've had the most fun with:

.221 FB - 40gr BT (moly)

22-243AI - 75gr A-Max (moly)

6.5x284 - 142gr SMK (naked)

460 Wby - 300gr Hornady HP :>)

i use my Edge with 250 gr bullets. it's great practice for elk. hopefully i'll get my 6wssm up and running soon to practice with. it doesn't seem to use as much powder!

I use the 204,223 and 243 with light bullets for most of my doggin but when the yardages get past 500 the 6 & 6.5 284s come out to play with 105 and 140 bullets. The 75Amax out of the 22-250 does alright out there too;)
The wind here mandates a heavy bullet if your gonna getem past 500!
