Vais muzzle break question

I have found a good deal on vais muzzle break's . A local shop has a box full of various sizes . How do I measure the barrel to determine what size I need for each of my rifles? Diameter of the barrel at the end of the barrel or 1/2 back then add some ? Most of these are .750 ,3/4 or 1"
I appreciate the help before hand
