URSA (the Unlimited Range Shooters Association) has scheduled the following events for the greater Barstow, CA area, roughly a three hour drive from LA or Vegas.
The first event will be held on Sunday, May 10th and the second on Sunday, June 7th - trying to get somewhat ahead of the severe heat season. We'll be shooting at something north of 2000 yards and something north of 2500 yards. Given shooter time and capability, we'll reposition targets to shoot at 3000 yards, possibly further. The location will support 4000 yards and well beyond, so plenty of upside.
Access is 4WD required due to sandy conditions. Gas/facilities and food are nearby but there are no facilities, water, or shade at the actual shooting location. Sunscreen and canopies or suffer. Temps in the high 80s/lower 90s are expected.
We will rendezvous at 0600 and caravan together to the shooting location. Targets will need to be set up when we arrive but that should take less than 30 minutes. The rendezvous location will be e-mailed to shooters NLT than Sunday, May 3rd, and Sunday, May 31st, respectively.Parking is limited to roadside only and priority will be given to shooters from rendezvous thru unloading their gear. The road that we use is adjacent to the shooting location and must be kept open for emergency and non-event vehicular traffic.Non-event traffic should be none or close to none. If you have a stable shooting bench, bring it, else you'll be shooting off the ground.
Course of fire will primarily be getting on target and qualifying to shoot the formal part of the event. Shooters need to score hits three (3) times out of 10 shots to qualify. We will be using IRIS shot-indicator systems (2). Only shots that turn the lights on count as hits. Nicks and weak rounds which do not turn the lights on count as misses. We expect that qualifying will run from 2 to 2.5 hours, possibly longer. NOTE:Leave your AP and incendiary ammo at home as they are one of the few things on the hardware side that are strictly prohibited.
All shooters and spotters, and anyone else that will require access to the firing line, will need to sign the liability release portion of the Liability Release, Build Sheet, & Results (form). Shooters also need to complete the Build Sheet section. Please download, print, and come to the rendezvous location with the form completed. We will not be leaving the rendezvous location until all forms are completed and turned into the event "organizers". Use of eyesight and hearing protection is mandatory - equipment checked at rendezvous location.
URSA is totally non-commercial and there is NO fee, charge, or any other form of compensation required or accepted. URSA is fully described at UnlimitedRange.org - Home. Review of the Operations ("rules") page is strongly suggested.
We need at least 10-12 shooters to make the event worthwhile, and I need 1-2 people (helpers) to help me set up the 115# targets and police traffic and the line. Those interested in shooting or helping are asked to contact [email protected] ASAP. If we fail to get 10-12 commitments (plus helpers) by 6 PM on Sunday, May 3rd, and Sunday, May 31st, respectively, the event will be rescheduled.
Sorry for the late notice but IRIS gear arrived late and testing was only done on 4/16.
