URSA (the Unlimited Range Shooters Association) SoCal shoots resume on Sunday, October 18th (SoCal 4). We shoot in the greater Barstow, CA area, roughly a three hour drive from the greater LA and Vegas areas.

We'll be shooting at approximately 2085 yards and approximately 2640 yards (assuming we have shooters capable of advancing to that second distance). We'll then reposition targets to shoot at 3000+ yards and possibly further, depending on shooter success in prior stages. This venue will support 4000 yards and well beyond, so plenty of upside.

Access is "4WD highly recommended" due to sandy conditions. [We have already had to tow a couple of shooters, one a large 2WD dualie.] Gas/facilities and food are nearby but there are no facilities, water, or shade at the actual shooting location. Temps are expected to be in the 70s and 80s; bring sunscreen. Based on prior shoots, we should be done shooting by 1100 hours (11 AM).

We will set up the day before so that shooting can commence promptly at 0700 (7 AM), very slightly after sunrise. All shooters are expected to arrive in sufficient time to get fully offloaded and set up by 0650 when we will have a brief shooters meeting. If you have a stable shooting bench, bring it, else you'll be shooting off the ground.

Course of fire will begin with getting on target and qualifying to shoot the formal part of the event. Shooters need to score hits three (3) times out of 10 shots to qualify. Practice and qualifying will run from 1 to 1.5 hours, followed by the formal shoot which will run as long as shooters meet the minimum requirement to advance (4 hits in 10 shots). Following the "shoot" portion of the event we will provide shooters an opportunity to shoot for Achievement (classification). We will be using IRIS shot-indicator systems (2). Only shots that turn the lights on count as hits. Nicks and weak rounds which do not turn the lights on count as misses. NOTE: Leave your AP and incendiary ammo at home as they are one of the few things on the hardware side that are strictly prohibited. See FAQ 13 at the bottom of the Operations page for the "Standard Drill".

ALL shooters and anyone else that will on the line MUST be wearing eye protection (ANSI Z87+ or better with side shields or of a wrap-around design) and hearing protection (Noise Reduction Rating/NRR of 25 or higher, preferably double plugged). Open chamber indicator in place at ALL times when the range is not Hot or, if still Hot, after the shooter has completed firing.

All shooters and spotters, and anyone else that will require access to the firing line, will need to sign the liability release portion of the "Liability Release, Build Sheet, & Results" (form) - http://www.unlimitedrange.org/Liability Release_Build Sheet_Results form Rev NC.pdf. Shooters also need to complete the Build Sheet section. Please download, print out, and come to the event with the form ALREADY completed. PLEASE PRINT LEGIBLY!

URSA is totally non-commercial and there is NO fee, charge, or any other form of compensation required or accepted. URSA is fully described at www.unlimitedrange.org. Review of the Operations page ("rules") is strongly recommended.

We need one additional person to help set up the 115# targets the day before each shoot (need to arrive by 1745 hours, 5:45 PM). During the July shoot folks camped out overnight. Those interested in shooting are asked to contact [email protected] ASAP.
