On the show warden's or some other hunting show I see winches mounted on the headache rack which is behind the cab on top of the bed they are mounted high on those and these are people that regularly haul elk up into the back of their truck That also leaves the bed completely empty for any other gear you may want to put there

we do that up here to get moose up in to the bed of trucks but mount them down in the bed and use wheeler ramps to help load them
