My Cow Elk gun has been a 7mm-08, or 6.5 CM. Killed many cow Elk. Even Cow Moose don't like the 6.5 CM with a bonded 140 bullet.
Finally drew a trophy Elk unit after 100 years of trying. I'll be within 300 yards for sure. I know Bull Elk are tough, so I'm 2nd guessing my 7mm-08 with a partition. and Elk tend to run uphill, while a Moose stands around waiting to be shot again.
I've been successful with the light calipers because I sit at the range for hours. No problem with a small cartridge.
.30-06 is out of the question. I'll never be able to sit at the range for any length of time. Is there any cartridge slightly bigger (more energy) than a 7mm-08 or 6.5 ??
Not too big or I'll be flintching.
