Great way to support the kids. I too was in 4H and FFA and most years took a steer off of the family ranch. I bought my first 22lr with the money from the first steer I sold. It's a Browning BAR-22 with silver receiver and I topped it with a 4 power Leupold. That's one gun I'll never part with.

This is one subject that's close to me. I was raised in FFA, 4-H and a farm kid and I'm raising my daughters in it as well. Maybe I'm biased but I truly believe if you show me a kid who grew/grows up around 4-H, FFA, or a farm kid in some way, that 99% of them are going to be honest, hard working and overall great kids. I'm not sure what other activities can give you that percentage. Fortunately for me it looks like I'll be around it for quite some time yet. And I'm good with that. Thank you to everyone who supports these programs.

Great story! I wish every child had the opportunity to raise an animal and show them at their local fair. I was born and raised on a dairy farm in eastern PA and was involved with 4-H from an early age all the way until I was too old. I showed my cows every year at the county fair. Lots of my family and friends had dairy cows and most also had some sort of livestock (steers, pigs, sheep, etc) that they sold at the end of the fair. They viewed the fair as a money making venture. Meanwhile, for me it was a money losing venture because my entry fees for my dairy cows were higher than my winnings. We didn't sell our animals at the end of the fair, just took them back home to the farm.
