I am considering a tikka t3 in a 270 wsm and have heard tikkas do not maintain the same velocities in the WSM as other manufactures due to freebore so i am wondering what kind of velocity some of you guys are getting?

I want my cases to lats more then 2-3 firing so I don't go over the manual max and get ruffly:

130gr - 3300fps
140gr - 3200fps
150gr - 3100fps

Salar

W780 for 130 and 140.
H1000 for the 150.

All producing sub 3/4 MOA easily.

MagPro as the reputation to produce high velocity but I never tried it.

Good luck

Magpro is a bad powder for use with fed primers, so if you try that one stay away from fed primers. We've had a number of rifles show this tendancy and I even talked with one of the techs at Sierra about it. He said another primer should be fine (ie. win or cci) but the powder was already destined for file 13.

2.830 on my dummy round. The guy who was teaching me just had me set the accubonds at max mag length, so when I tried the Barnes, I just set them to the same oal.

Blacksheep did you crimp the barnes bullets at all? Just curious.

Right now i have imr4350,magpro, and reloader 17&22 on hand. Anybody else got any good loads with these powders with either the 130 barnes ttsx, 140 accubond or 140 sierra gk out of a tikka at all?

Motown, I have a very accurate Tikka T3 Lite 270WSM. I did all initial load development with a Chronograph. I used only Magpro, WLRM primer, Win cases. Hornady Vmax 110, 5shots in 11/16". Swift A-frame 150, 5 shots in 5/8". Swift Scirocco 130, 4". I never could come close to advertised velocities without running into excessive pressures. I now use H414 powder as well. Both powders give good performance in my gun. My gun does not like the Scirocco bullet for some reason. All others shoot sub moa or better. I tried to find the lead/rifling throat in my gun. On a dummy round I seated the bullet out !/8" past the magazine length and chambered the round. It extracted perfectly with no rifliing marks on the bullet. The throat has got to be long!!!! Other than academics it doesn't seem to care much about seating depth. So I just seat my bullets to fit the magazine and use a Lee factory crimp die with a light crimp to prevent movement of the bullet from recoil. It's a superb hunting rifle in my opinion. The Vmax load I settled on was 3310fps. The SAF 150 load I settled on was 3020fps. Plenty fast enough to kill the intended game and highly accurate. Hope this helps.

I am currently shooting a tikka 270wsm. You just need to find yourself some RL17 and you will have the only powder you need for the 270. With the 129lrx I'm getting a 0.9" group at 200 yard @ 3420 fps and with a 140 ab I get 3260 fps with great accuracy.

I have the same rig and have had great success. no issues other than barrel heat up. I am running 61 gr of RL-19 at mag length in Win brass, fed 215m primer, noz 140gr ballistic tips, full length RCBS dies. 3080fps is the sweet spot for my Tikka. with this load i am able to get .435 inch groups at 100, .68 at 200, .75 at 300 and 2 inch at 400 (nut behind the wheel problem , I do believe).

I have been waiting for the funds to finish the rebuild of the gun for going on 2 years. I have a Brux 8 twist, in #10 contour waiting in the safe, and 100 Matrix 175gr VLD's, that will be single fed do to being to long for factory mag and I dont feel like making the switch to ASICS system. The man you really need to talk to is Tikka Mike and BignGreen. both of those have t3's in 270wsm i do believe and are a cornucopia of information.

Good luck, stay safe, have tons of fun

Trm82, thanks for posting on RL17. I read somewhere else that RL17 was "THE" powder. Thanks for confirming it's usefulness. I will try it. I can't say enough good about this rifle/cartridge combo. After 4 nice Blacktail Bucks and 3 Black Bear to 400 lbs all one shot kills it's effectiveness has been confirmed. Thanks for all the info. Never had a problem with the Tikka T3 in a hunting situation. I would not hesitate to take larger game with it.
