Agreed. That was what I found shocking....and a little hard to accept initially: The 6.5 PRC @ 500 yards, delivers about 100 ft/lbs. more energy with same size projectile than my beloved .300 WMs.

Savage barrels are hit-or-miss. But Savage's 300 PRC Savage LRH is selling for about $800, and that's complete with Accurate-Mag bottom metal and magazine that's worth $150 or so. For $800, if your copy of that rifle doesn't shoot well, you can replace the barrel with an aftermarket pre-fit, and still have a relatively inexpensive rifle that should shoot nearly as well as a custom rifle.
