I was excited to try out my Rem VTR .223 on some long-distance dogs last week, so I set up on a field where I was expecting a 300-500 yd shot as the coyotes come up out of a creek bottom. I got going on my hand call (cotton tail) did a few rounds and then waited. As I am scanning the horizon for sign, I see movement to my left. I look over and there is this small female staring at me about 25yds away! I quickly dial back to 6.5 power and get on target - she still hasn't winded me and POW! I explode her heart with a 55gr Z-max. Haha - not really a challenge - but I'll take as many as I can get!

Fishcop669,
Welcome to LRH forums! :)

Congradulations on a clean kill shot coyote. I'm with you, I'll take all I can get...at any distance.

Kinda like this little fella, I was out spraying soybeans and noticed him im the fenceline a few hundred out. Didn't even camo up, grabbed a call and he popped out of the trees 50yards away! Some of the trickiest critters, when they wana be, but not that day! :D

Cool. I will take a close shot any day! Two years back I got a frantic phone call from my dad, he was worried he was going to have a heart attack. About 45 seconds earlier he was sitting in the corner of some recently planted pines and had a yote run into him hard enough to knock him over. He claims they made eye contact right before impact :)
