Temp stability chart

Do you have a direct route to get this downloaded. I have tried a few different ways and no real sucess yet. That does clear thing up a bit.

I had an experience CFE223 a couple years ago. I finished 6.5x47 hunting rifle, went to the range to fire form cases and break in the barrel on a cold morning, around 35 degrees. I have two jugs of CFE, so I figured to use it for fire forming and break in. The second shot had a huge delay, I literally heard the firing pin drop before it went off. Thought it was a fluke, but it wasn't. 3 out of 5 rounds had delayed ignition! Wasn't planning to chrono the loads, I decided to see what they were doing velocity wise. Had 200-250 fps spreads, bullets were all over the place on the target.

Bottom line, CFE does not work well in cold weather. I have zero confidence it that powder now.

Interesting! I don't use the powder anyway, but I will remember.
 
Ya, I'm not playing politics. I'm just saying I don't believe it's possible to give a powder a temp stability number per degree across all uses. Varget in a 375H&H has a very different burn cycle than a 6 BR and I'll guarantee temperature will affect each use case differently.

Several years ago, I did a test with my .375 AI (Barnes 250 TTSX) loaded with RL 17……reputedly very temperature sensitive.

I do all of my load development on hot days (90+ F), allowing the rifle and the cartridges to adequately reach ambient temperature.

I did a test with the temperatures between 0 to -3 F…..following the same procedure with the rifle and cartridges. My memory isn't very clear on this…..if I recall correctly, I gained 8 fps. Go figure! memtb
 
In all the temp charts that I have I don't have anything on RL 16 nor RL 23. The one's I have are in the range of about 1.4 FPS on reloaders powders. Why those powders are not shown, I don't know, and seem funny they are not. I know that double base powders have a bigger problem with temp than the single base powders. I stay with single base powders, and with the H powder more so. So where is the info on RL 16, and 23. I do use IMR 4064 in my 220 Swift, and MRP in my 25/06's, and W760 in my 338WM, Those were develop in the summer time.
I haven't used IMR powder over 25yrs ago. I had a problem with over pressure. I could get an extra 100fps out of the IMR powders and very accuratic too. I develop a load in the winter time, and tried it again in the summer time. Push a primer out of the case. Never use IMR powder again, and gave away about 16lbs of powder too.
If you have anything that shows the rating on those 2 powders, please post it. I change to H-4350 and never looked back in that one rifle.
Findly, I will be getting my new 338WM, but in a 28" barrel length. My other is in a 24" length. I'll get to see if I can match the velocity that I get with the W760 powders, but in an H powder.
I have slowly, over the years, gathered temp stability references as I come across them. My spreadsheet shows .34 fps per degree for RL16.

I use this info as a rough guide only.....as stated previously by others, the only measurement that matters is what you find when testing your own load in your own firearm.
