Tarp (tent) recommedations

Looking for a good durable lightweight tarp for glassing in precip or wind while on hunts. 10ftx10ft is ideal for what I need. Not really a tarp tent but more of a cover during rain, snow or wind while glassing for game. I've had a couple that didn't last. Looking for a better quality tarp that doesn't break the bank. Ive seen them upwards of $300 for a 10x10 piece of nylon. That's crazy

I have the Lite Outdoors ultralight silnylon tarp 8x10, I use it just as you are describing. I believe mine weighs 11 oz and packs up really small, it lives in my backpack as well as my Survive Outdoors Longer emergency bivy and fire starter. I had to seal the seems before use but the sealant came with the tarp. So far mine has held up well, give them a look. Cheers, Jason

Start your search with the AquaQuest Guide Tarp in 10x10. For about $150, you get a known quantity that's built for guides and serious users. It's the right balance for a dedicated glassing tarp. If you want even tougher and don't mind a couple extra pounds, delve into the bushcraft supplier sites.

So after researching and actually seeing them on hand (all but one brand) and most being close in price, I think the Seek DST offers more for what I need. I like the center pin location for a pole already being in place to secure a pole to. Weight wise, they are all close. Durability will remain to be seen. I had an REI and it wasn't real durable.

If you're not picky about color or anything, tyvek house wrap is very cheap and quite strong.

Pretty picky on color for what I'm using it for. If I hunted on snow top mountains, it wouldn't be much of a concern.

For your needs, buy the Aqua Quest Safari 10x10 or the Chill Gorilla equivalent. For $80, you get a bombproof, quiet, packable shelter that will last for years of storms and let you glass in peace. Save the $300 for ammo or gas money.

Thanks for all the input. Decided on the Seek DST for $129.00. Found some cheaper no name tarps which probably would be as tough but liked the center cone pole location spot on the DST. I'll be taking to Montana this October so we'll see how well it does.

Looks like I'm a little late to the party but for anyone else searching for recommendations, I can recommend the Aquaquest Guide tarp. Last year I used it as my shelter at 8000'+ and pitched in the Gunya configuration. We went through a rain storm and ice storm with pretty high winds. My buddies teepee style tent was struggling but that tarp never flinched. I used nemo switchback pad and a good down bag and it was plenty.

I have a chill gorilla also that I have used with hammock. Nothing really bad to say about it but I have more faith in the Aquaquest. It is really light which is bonus also.
