Very thorough test and well done. But does not line up with my personal preferences and needs for a long range hunting or ELR shooting scope. But if you are into the tactical realm of shooting this might be very helpful.

Very interesting test. I didn't realize that many people were sold on FFP. Advanced features and ergonomics are the only thing that ranked the ATACR so low. The fact that it only has 3 reticle choices, isn't FFP, and is heavy knocked it down, but if you only based it on mechanical and optical it would come in number 2. Yes, I'm biased, but those two features are the most important to me and I'm glad to see I got the best I could for what I was looking for (based off of these tests anyhow). I certainly have not been disappointed in it.

I agree and I would take points away for FFP for my intended use (LR hunting LR and ELR shooting) I would have never bought one in FFP. Plus MOA and the MOAR reticle work perfectly for me.

Yeah I agree, we all need something different and I don't do the tactical shoots. I tried a few FFP's and found them more of a pain than a plus. I like to be able to see my reticle on low power if I go into a dark elk timber without having to use the glaring illumination or have to turn it on before I shoot. Plus I like to be able to see and use sub-tensions at lower power settings as well if needed. Then when I crank it up I prefer the reticle remain consistent and look the same on all power settings, and not run off the page as some FFP reticles do when turned up. Plus I like my reticles thin for ELR work. The ATACR with a MOAR T is everything I need and want from 50 yards to 3000 in any light conditions.

I thought the blog was very well written and seemed to be impartial.

Since I'm not a tactical shooter but rather a hunter I also prefer the SFP scopes.

I was somewhat surprised that Nightforce scored very well in the "Value: Price Per Point" section.

I DO love my NF scopes and am very satisfied with their performance.

If the SFP scopes weren't hit so hard because they weren't FFP I suspect the NF scopes would have fared much better but then this was a "tactical scope comparison" so he stayed true to his intention and apparently the tactical shooters heavily prefer the FFP scopes.

Another scope line that did well was Bushnell. Value is outstanding with the Bushnell line and I love my 6500's (not included in this test) for their optical clarity. They're outstanding in that department and they transmit light very very well.

I imagine that there will be some people that are offended by this comparison but I think the author did well and it is what it is...

It definitely was! The testing and data crunching were a lot of work, but a lot of fun too. It was awesome to get hands on experience with all the different designs. They are far from "all the same." Lots of cool and unique features on most of them. Man, it is crazy how far scopes have come in the past 20 years, and even the past 10 years.

But ... Good glass will ruin you! Unfortunately I may never be satisfied with anything less again. I guess there are worse things in life. They cost way less than a bass boat! ... At least most of them.

Lots of great information. It would be interesting to see follow-up info from users to see if their experiences match with these results. I do love my S&B!
