This winter i decided i want to build a dictated hunting rifle for my Thunder Beast Ultra 7 Suppressor.
For the caliber i new i wanted some thing that i had plenty of powder for, i could readily find quality brass , and a good selection of bullets' that were also easy to come buy. also needed to be a all-around elk, deer, and bear round
so that left me ,
300 WSM , i already have dies, new norma brass, lots of good 30 cal bullets and a lot of H4350
300 RSAUM ???
6.5 PRC , i don't have any of the unicorn powders it likes and my personal cut off for bear and elk caliber diameter is 7mm so this ones a no go for me
there was plenty more i thought about, i love my wildcats and my 7mmWSM.

I ended up going with the 300 WSM for a bunch of reasons, i had all the stuff needed to reload , a few new 30cal barrel blanks laying around , and it has all the power i could need

Action - stock remington 700 sa that use to be a 270wsm
Trigger - Timney the hit-st 8oz flat
Stock - Went with a MDT LSS chassis i got from a member on here
Barrel - X-Caliber Remage pre fit #6 contour 1-10 twist that i cut down to 18" and threaded
Muzzle Brake System from Area 419, there Hellfire brake and there adapter for my thunderbeast can so i can swap back and forth easily
Scope - Zeiss V4 4-16x50 with Zeiss rings and NF 20moa rail

I was very curious to see what the 300 wsm could do from an 18" barrel, if it didn't live up to my goals well i would just spin it off and go a different direction .

went with the Berger 175gr OTM Tactical mostly because i had a thousand
i tryed a few differint powders just to be sure
PP4000MR, N560, and H4350
N560 showed promise i just didn't have a lot of it so i didn't go to far with the work up
as for the PP4000MR this stuff was all over the place and now its all sold never had good luck with this powder in anything i tried it in.
Now H4350 was the Ticket as i thought it would be
my work up was with once fired norma brass and fed gm215m primers working up in .3gr increments
loaded to .05 off jam
sea-level 60derg speeds with magneto speed on a mk mount
With out the thunderbeast ultra 7 as im still waiting on that
62.4=2800
62.7=2829
63.0=2849
63.3=2856
63.6=2869
63.9=2872
64.2=2874
64.5=2889
64.8=2893
so i went with 63gr and 64gr loaded 5 of each
63gr avg-2839 sd-8.8 64gr avg 2878 sd- 5.8
2845 2879
2851 2881
2841 2874
2832 2871
2830 2886
i was hoping to get 2700 to 2900 fps out of the 18" barrel but wasn't to sure if i could. going to stick with the 64gr load still need to play with my seating depth a little but so far so good still a work in progress

i will try to post pictures here shortly and maybe weigh it
overall it came out better than i thought it would more or less it was for my curiosity and something to do over the winter.

With the H4350 i did try 65gr got me 2927 and a slight extractor mark i think i could have go up a little more but the 64gr load shoots so nice im settling on that.
N560 i started to see pressure at 70.8=2911 and 71gr=2931 had a flat primer and heavy extractor mark
PP4000MR 67.5gr to 68gr in my workup got me in the 2919-3000 mark but was all over the place

pictures from today

Sweet rig! I've got an Ultra 7 in jail right now and have been thinking about the best chambering and barrel to pair with the suppressor for a hunting rifle.

I've got a 24"xpr I was wanting to cut down to 20"-- but mdt has stopped making a chassis for it.
Hoping someone makes a lightweight folding chassis for it in the future

Consider trying a heavier bullet? Just for the heck of it.

The 210 Berger VLD shot GREAT from my 300 WSM via a healthy charge of H4350. Mine had a 24" barrel, and as I recall I was seeing 2910 fps from it.

Thanks for sharing your 18" data, that's not much barrel. :)

Regards, Guy

i have some 208LR Hybrid target and some 210 ABLR that i thought about trying, but i was kind of worried about length and mag feed i still might .
and yes definitely not much barrel, i don't have anything in the safe's less than 24", after ever shot i kept looking down the barrel to make sure it burnet all the powder and had no kernels left

It'll be interesting to see what happens to pressure when you screw on the suppressor. I've experienced some pressure issues on my short barrel rifles when going from non-suppressed to suppressed.

im anticipating having to rework up a load when i get the can.
this is my load to shoot while i wait. hopefully it will stay somewhat close to what im seeing now ill have to wait in see
