Stevens Favorite .22

Probably not a rifle that is asked about much here, but I bet the knowledge is here. I have a Favorite (1915?) that when the hammer is cocked, the lever falls freely with zero resistance. I can swing it up and down. I haven't fired the rifle, but my 5 year old is ready. I need to get it ready. Any ideas? mtmuley
