rifle(very heavy) is a custom single shot 98 mauser action with a ss 30" barrel , my first load with imr 4831 was 73 grs and a 162 edl-x, it cronied 3159 fps with no signs of pressure. cases are federal 300 weatherby once fired. i want to find the best load with different powders-bullets.

4831 seems too fast for that large of a case. You've got more case capacity than a 28 Nosler, and it generally likes powders in the H1000/Retumbo/R33/N570 range for the 160+ bullet weight.

Those speeds are also quite a bit slower than I'd expect with that much case and a 30" barrel. I'd guess you should be seeing close to 3300 with a top load.

i wanted to start low at 73 grs 4831 and work up, i have H-1000 and retumbo and will try it too. 3159 fps is not to shabby to start with.

Sounds interesting what's your twist played with one 300 bee and two Stw's , that's nice first speed and a great Powder , your gonna have a rim 2 rim shooter , thks and keep us posted 👏👏👍

Agreed, I'm getting 3193 fps shooting 180 Barnes from a 24" bartlein.
