Sorting Brass by Neck Wall Thickness

I bought a new Sinclair Case Neck Sorting Tool and 100 new pieces of WW brass for a 300 WM. Everything I have read says to sort the brass by neck wall thickness before going through a sizing die. Most of the case necks are slightly dented and none of them will fit over the pilot for the tool. I would think it should be o.k. to run them through a sizing die and still get an accurate reading. Does this sound right?

A suggestion: When it comes to tools for precision measurements, don't go cheap.
I assume you're talking about one of these:

I am Pro-Sinclair all the way. They bring great products to market.

THAT'S FRIGGIN SWEET

But lately Sinclair is sliding in judgement. And this one gets my '08 Worst Product to Market' award:

Anyway, yes you can size the necks first, expanding out the dings for measurement.
