Snakebite

I hate snakes, I kill them whenever i see them.

If they are the posion type.

Many do not realize that very often when a family member is bitten by a Rattler or Copper head, the family is financially RUINED from the experience. The person who is recovering from the bite may never have the quality of life he once had, nor be able to maintain his job/career.

Now, tell me how good they are for the environment.

All that is unfortunate. And a tough one to deal with. But there are many other ways to end up the same way. Snakes do eat rats. And rats carry diseases. Not saying we need the venomous snakes to get rid of rats. But I would guess they do have other purposes in the ecosystem as well. Imagine how many people stay out of the woods because of them. It also keeps some from moving to these areas. And that right there could be a good thing.

While I dislike all snakes I understand that a balanced environment needs some, but that doesn't prevent me from putting holes in any that are within striking distance.

The snake hunters had a hay day here in the 80s and 90s. Folks welcomed them. Not only were poisonous snakes removed but many species of non venomous snakes were removed and sold to various entities as well. Within 5 years after the snake hunting started there was an explosion in those areas of the rat populations. Residents stopped welcoming the snake hunters. I let non poisonous snakes go. With poisonous snakes it really depends on where they are as to what I do. Around my house. They gotta go! Same with gators.

Yep but I can tolerate the rat snakes as long as they don't bother the Wood duck nests. Then they gotta go. It's a vicious cycle. Rats just draw more snakes unfortunately. We all move to where the food is. At least I do
