That muzzle blast shield was VERY important! You only forgot that once!:eek:;)

I did, once. It gave me a reminder.

With revolvers, the shield protected against the cylinder gap gases also, and sometimes, we would wear two leather shields. One on the calf and one on the thigh, but every so often in revolver, someone used a complete leather leg chap.
 
Using the old Creedmoor shooting position. That is how it was done back in the day, and a few of us used this instead of prone. It was also used in IHMSA (pistol) for the any position category, for we would lie on our backs with our pistol/revolver barrels pressed against our lower leg.

I could never hold that position, my legs would cramp so bad I'd throw the shot into the next county
