I read this on another forum.

I've checked with AlanF to get his OK to post this - the purpose of this thread is to assist people who have rifles left at Clancy's Gunsmithing - not to discuss any of the hows and whys etc ( I don't know them anyway)

Shane Clancy's Gunsmithing has been shut down, and his license revoked, all firearms seized by police.

I have been trying to get a custom rifle back from him for 12 months, and have been given the contact details of the investigating officer.

If anyone here was a customer and has a similiar issue message me and I will pass on the details (he has asked that we don't just post the info in public)
I have spoken to the officer yesterday and he has a quite a few firearms from all over Australia, some gaps in the records, and despite the registry system it's not easy for the police to find the owners, especially if they are from interstate.

It's only firearms/actions that can be recovered, anything else is a civil matter.

ridge rider,

Thanks for the heads up re Shane. What a bugger!

He has a Surgeon short action of mine fully paid for, and a permit to acquire for it mailed to him two weeks ago. Many messages left and no response!

Please fill me in on contact details for the Investigating Officer when you can. Much appreciated.

Have you had any luck retrieving your rifle?

Thanks again,

Make no mistake; Shane Clancy has screwed many people
You are mot alone
I have come out of this OK and others haven't
Shane was the Australian agent for Premier Reticle Tactical Scopes
My Premier scope **** itself and so I sent it to Shane for warranty repairs to be effected
To cut a long story short Shane tried to steal my scope by telling me it was repaired and that he sent it to me in the mail
He gave me a tracking number that did not comply with Aust Post
Things just did not add up and when I tried to contact Shane I had no sucess and so I contacted the Narrandera CIB and let them know my story
I also tracked down the new owners of Premier Reticles and found that they had my scope there still waiting to be repaired
I notified the people doing the warranty repair work on my scope NOT to return it to Shane and gave them the name of the CIB detective handling my case
In the end the scope was repaired and rightfully returned to me but it took a lot of effort
In the meantime I let the D's know about my case and that there were other folks that had similar treatment by Shane and so they decided to give Shane a bit of attention
I believe this is the result from that
Mine is not an isolated case as I was advised the D's that there were customers that had been screwed by Shane
Give me your email details in a PM and I will pass on the investigating detectives name onto you
Hopefully you and others can get a class action against this arsehole and hopefully the Sheriff might be able to sell his house and assets to get some of your money or property back
Let others know there is still a good chance to get your goods and money back

Good luck

So RR you are the one responsible. Good on you for standing up for your rights.

One less shark in the Australian Gunsmithing pool.
I had dealings with Shane and came away with a particular view.
First impressions are usually right. I stay out of the pool now. Too many sharks still swimming in it for my liking.

We could say you were one of the lucky ones as you got your rifle back from him; albeit with some attached problems
I knew of at least 6 people who were stung by Shane but none of them ever tried to follow up and basically gave up
I was not prepared to give in so easily
Once I got my scope back I advised the others that I succeeded and that they should give it a try
No doubt the detective would have received their phone calls and so this is where the wheels started to get into motion
I won't take credit for this; Shane can as he was the one who did the deed and caused his own downfall
