Seating depth

I load with std. RCBS dies on a Rockchucker. I'm having problems with my seating depth being consistent. Loading 7mm-08 120gr NBT. They are varying between 2.794 and 2.797 COL. I'm thinking of getting a micrometer seating die. Would this help or am I just a victim of bullet tip inconsistencies? I dont have a comparator. Im loading mainly for mag length at this point, not precision. I'd like to change that.

If your COL is only a few thousand off, that's better than all my Hornady & Berger. I bet your CBTO is exact. As long as they fit the mag there's no getting better.

Are you shooting Benchrest 600yds.

A VLD seating stem might help you.
But for hunting out to 600yds you are fine. Most will agree, some will Boohoo.

I hope. I mean they shoot great, but ive kinda got OCD about it. I am pretty sure the ojive measurements are good. They will do 1/2" if I do my part.

I encounter .010 variance in bullets tip to stern.
OCD reigns supreme the less you shoot. The more you shoot, the less this nit pick schit you think about.

Are you measuring OAL or Base to Ogive? If you are measuring OAL just let it rip,

I picked up a Frankford Arsenal Universal Bullet Seating Die Kit.
And for my hunting loads this kit is sweet. Has the vld stems. I cleaned and lubricated everything and worked it in my hand and press. To kind of break it in so to speak. And I have been tempted to use it for my Br ammo.

Might have to look into that. Good luck to you also. I've got a bunch of tags to fill. We want to take about thirty off my buddies farm this year. Way too many running about. Its nothing to see 40-50 in each field on the farm every night. I'm in Clarion County here, lots of deer.

We have a pretty good crew. No bucks allowed until you shoot two baldies! Two guys out with bows, three of us in early muzzle loader, 6 or so in rifle, and 4 or 5 in flintlock season.
