Scope rings

I have noticed that in all the pictures of scope rings the nut that is tightened to mount the scope to the rifle is on the left side of the rifle is this the correct and only way or can it be on ether side.
Is this crazy or am i right or wrong
 
Typically the nut is on the side away from the loading port of the action. That makes it less likely that you'll smack it with your hand during the heat of battle.:) It'll work either way but you usually see it on the "off" side.

+1 and it add a point of impact for the round you are ejecting.
