When I get to the point that I can't handle the pain I will take Tylenol and Tramadol, methylprednisone will deal with the swelling causing the pain. Talk with your physician regarding this possibility. Good Good luck

Please don't take this as offense. As I have been through many different pain treatments and remedies. "I have told people before that say they would never take pain meds or have surgery. If you hurt bad enough you will let someone cut on you with a kitchen knife if you thought it would help. Until you reach that point you haven't hurt bad enough to know". I chewed through a pillow case during a mylegram the morning after I broke my back. They would inject fluid into each space then ask which hurt the worse.

There is an OTC product called MagniLife. They make a leg and back pain reliever. It helps me when sciatica flares up. I don't like the narcotic options the doctor prescribes.

The problem is that injuries like the back are cumulative. For a while, sometimes a long while, it will go out or you will have a subluxation that will get better with time, rest, ice, heat, Tylenol, etc. When it finally goes or breaks, it's a whole lot worse. A completely different category. You'll know when that happens. Immediately. I had a buddy who died last year. He was my older duck hunting partner and was one tough man. He walked a mile to get help when he broke his neck in a car wreck in his teens. Then stayed on a barbecue spit device in traction immobile for 6 months. They fused and wired his vertebra and then he moved on with his life. Fast forward 15 years. He starts having some issues but injections and light meds helped. Then one night, it went, while he was having sex. According to him, I assure y'all I was not present, he dropped like he was shot. He couldn't even dress himself or get off the floor. They replaced the disc with cadaver bone and fused that level the next morning.

When I had my cervical fusion the neurosurgeon gave me two options. You have surgery tonight or surgery in the morning. I had to wait for my wife to get home from work and come to Birmingham. So next morning it was. He said that if I drove home and got into a auto accident I'd either be dead or paralyzed from the neck down. My left arm would go numb and just hang at my side. It felt like I was touching somebody else arm. Very weird thing.

I can relate. My doctor has told me often that with all the vertebrae I have fused S2 - T10 and C6-7 that if I am in a car accident there is a very good chance that I will be paralyzed. I don't have much flexibility to absorb the impact. My wife says I drive like a 90 year old man. I just laugh.
My cervical fusion was due to an old football injury. Caught a knee right in the ear hole of my helmet. Later on when it went bad my pinky and two middle fingers of my left hand just stayed numb. My grip in that hand got weak. It took about a year after surgery for the feeling to come back.

For the most part. Pain is something I have to live with. Meds just make it more tolerable. It never truly goes away. I broke my back and have had 9 operations. The last 3 combined for a major rebuild ie removal of existing hardware and install of more hardware plus 4 wedges in the front of the spinal column. I have to take a fairly low dose of pain and spasm meds every day but doctors are amazed I have been able to get down to the levels I'm at.

Here is the way it was explained to me.
The disk is 2 parts. The inner core & the outer core and I'm sure everyone has heard the jelly doughnut story. When either one leaks it allows the disk to collapse which in turn pinches the nerve & you have back pain. Dr. Kevin Pauza has developed a procedure to correct that. Here is the procedure that I went through in 2017. You lie on a table with a fluoroscope above and below you. Dr. Pauza injects the disk with saline to see which disk is leaking. After that evaluation he then injects the problem disks with fibrogen which has FDA. The material is safe to use. By injecting the fibrogen into the disk it seals the leak and "pumps" (my words) up the disk to take pressure of the nerve. I had my procedure done in January 2017 and it has allowed me to go through a house move which required packing up the shop, lifting boxes, tubs, & crates & moving it North. Had I not had the procedure done I never would have been able to accomplish the move & set up my shop.
Many family members have had sciatica/back pain issues & they chose to go the surgery route. Needless to say they are still in pain.
Over the years I had tried massages, chiropractors & therapy but nothing has done as much as the injections have done in 2017.
I always recommend Dr. Pauza when someone that knows me asks "How is your back". Is it the cure all for back pain & suffering? No, but it is the best we have available that I know of.
