Rust like deposits on brass?

Update:
This rusty looking blemish was a lot harder to remove than I anticipated…..
It took a lot of scrubbing with steel wool and not all of it is gone. I have no idea what it is, but it is stubborn as a burro.

Any pitting into the brass?

Might give some Mothers brand polish a try. I got an old WW 2 50cal that was in pretty rough shape. Once I got the heavy crud off and down to the brass it had some of those spots. It took awhile and some sore hands but it did come off finally.

I have used Nevrdull on old brass before. Chuck it in the drill and let it do it's thing.

Mothers would be good on a scotch brite pad...and it smells good.
