WE hunt in IN and calibers are restricted here on state land. it was shotgun slugs only for a long time.
My dad is looking into 350 legend and wants an ar platform.
i know a lot say 16" barrel on 556 is all you need. is that the same on 350? 18s and 20s are available

I see both 350 Legend and 450 Bushmaster available on shelves out here (usually not at the same store). The pricing is about the same.
I recently built a 450 Bushmaster with a 16" barrel. It kicked like a 308. I added a Superlative adjustable gas block and a muzzle brake, and it's a great, easy shooter now.
It is well known, as your barrel gets longer on AR platforms, your muzzle blast is significantly reduced. In 223, a 20" barrel is much quieter than an 18" and so on. There's a study on that regarding barrel length and gunshot sound dB if you do some web searching.

The 300Blackout is NOT legal on public land:

These cartridges are legal to use only during the deer firearms, youth, reduction zones from Nov. 12, 2022 - Jan. 31, 2023 (in zones where local ordinances allow the use of a firearm), and special antlerless seasons (where open).

Isn't the 350 legend a.355 diameter ?

350 LEGEND FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Basic 350 Legend cartridge specs:

  • Bullet Diameter: .357 inch
  • Shellcase Length: 1.71 inches
  • Overall Cartridge length: 2.26 inches
I believe .355 is the correct bullet diameter and even Hodgdon used ONLY .355 bullet diameter in their load data. Using .357 diameter bullets can spike pressure. Rifle bores are .355 not .357.

What is bizarre is Winchester lists it as .357 bullet in their FAQ BUT sells .355 bullets for it. Was the .357 dia requirement was "overlooked" 🤷🏻‍♂️ ? All manual load data I see is for .355 bullet. Of course, the internet is different realm of sketchy data.

I'd be curious to see load data from an actual bullet or powder manufacturer using .357 bullets? Hornady shows .355 bullets and ammo, so if .357 was correct why are they using .355 as well.?

This information is from Winchester's website. I only quoted their statements:

ya i forgot about the .35 requirement
just wish they would open the "high powered rifles" for everywhere. they're legal on private, which we own. but it butts up to state, so that gray area pokes its head up.
