Well, he is in the "business" to make money. Sometimes we forget it's a livelihood to some people. The level of being an "influencer" versus being an old school outdoor "writer" is getting blurred IMO. I think Ron stays more on the outdoor writer side of equation to the greatest extent. It's a tough business to be in especially being older generation trying to play in all the media avenues they must participate in every second of their existence.

Can you imagine having to post and check your:
Email - how many?
Texts - how many phones?

Prob missed a few but seriously, why on earth would anyone want to do this? Ever watch a hunting show? The hunter is not enjoying the hunt at all. On phone constantly. The joy of being out in God's creation is completely lost upon a lot of them. Do they even hear a twig snap out of sight? Chickadee? Squirrel the size of Sasquatch raising your BP 50pts? I just cannot even fathom not being totally immersed in my hunt to enjoy every potential sensory input of being out there. I kinda feel sorry for some of these so called "influencers".

There are always give aways from these guys on YT, lots of great stuff, but you invariably need to comment on video, like on FB and Instagram and share with 3 friends....etc. Too many for me. Just sell raffle tickets for $10. Heck during TAC you get to shoot for a tricked out truck to the time of $15 per arrow just to be in the random drawing. 111 yards I think and arrow has to be inside the center, no touching a line.

He's getting crazy velocity for a 7x57 in his video. Over 3000 fps is kinda hot in any loading manual

Its actually not hot if you have time with the 7x57. The reloading manuals are for fearful beginners starting out with this cartridge but competent reloaders know the value and performance of a 7x57 in a modern rifle.

Old it is, with a history using variable strength rifle actions but in a reasonable rifle built over this or last century it will with reliability perform with mild recoil:
120gn @ 3100fps
130gn @ 3000
140gn @ 2900
150gn @ 2800
160gn @ 2700
175gn @ 2600.
Game falls over and bullet placement becomes relatively easier than using bigger, heavier recoiling, noisier cartridges over usual hunting ranges.

Being Ron Spomer takes a lot more work and years than the average hunter ever puts in. There is no 8 hours a day in dedicated learning.

Good post. That's why I and many other gave it away because we were litterally giving away knowledge and earned experience for too little income.

Sure, we do that anyway, helping others and growing the sport but if it is your income, then you have to maintain oersonal growth the stay ahead of your audience and that volume of work is far outside normal work effort for each pay check.

The income ceases but the smiles on a young face when they start hitting that bullseye or hitting that buck are the reward after you've been there and done it enough.

Beautiful rifle! I have a love/hate relationship with alot of these outdoor writers. Some of it stems from jealousy of getting paid to do what they love and I get paid to turn wrenches. Lol. Ron does a good job in my opinion and good on him for making a career out of it. Nice buck, and gorgeous rifle.

Ron doesn't do any giveaways anymore because to many people have run scams pretending to be him.

the 7x57 SAAMI pressure is very low, since it was made for the very early Mauser rifles. In modern rifles you can run them at 65k PSI without any concern, especially when using quality brass. The reloading manuals aren't allowed to give loads that are over SAAMI pressure which hinders the performance.

Not to suggest 'going off the books' but ammo loaded for older chamberings have to be limited should they go in the 1st production rifle or handgun ever made. There are some that may offer different pressure levels, like 45-70. I have a modern CZ rifle in 6.5 Swede, kinda don't feel the need for a Creedmoor.

The other thing, when reloading for an older chambering, I'm more likely to start higher in the data, especially for a modern firearm. Of course it depends in intentions. For plinking at 50 yards, little need for max performance.

I like Ron Spomer, common sense gun knowledge.

it is not a 280, it's a 7x57/275 rigby (I think his barrel says both)

I could be wrong as I just grabbed these from google, but 7x57 case capacity is 60gr H2O, and 7-08 is a hair over 52 grains case capacity. The reason they're ballistic twins is because 7x57 has such low pressure. If you load the 7x57 to 7-08 pressures you should be able to get a good amount more speed out of it.
