Right optic for rifle.

I have a Smith Enterprise semi-auto m14, I'm looking to put a scope on it. I'm not sure what to put on it though. Mostly for plinking but I will use it for hunting as well. Maxium distance 800yrds tops. Any suggestions?

I use a NF NXS 2.5-10 on my M1a Hunter. For shooting plates at 800, no problem. Personally I would not take a shot on a game with a 308 at 800 yards.

I agree, I wouldn't either. I do plinking at 800 no game at that distance.
