anyone ever take one off? This one is threaded, I have a thread protector, but the muzzle brake has never been off the gun and several hundred rounds have been fired through it.

It should not be a problem.

Find a brass punch that will just fit in one of the holes and tap on it to unscrew it.

After it has been removed clean with bore solvent ,oil and reinstall using the punch
(You don't have to tighten very much) or screw on the muzzle nut.
